HORIZON ELEMENTARY
Home of the Red-Tailed Hawks

February 2023
February is Black History Month. This year's theme chosen by secondary Black Student Union students is Black Renaissance. One fun addition at Horizon this year includes students from Sun Prairie West High School coming to Horizon on Wednesday, Feb. 22 to do some read alouds with each class.
Our SCO Meeting this month has moved to Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6pm. It is a virtual meeting this month and next. We will resume in-person meetings in April. Here is the link to Join the 2/9 SCO Zoom Meeting: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87815926718
Believe it or not, we are already making plans for staffing classrooms next year. If you have a neighbor/friend, or if you know of a family who has moved to Sun Prairie recently, please encourage them to register their child(ren) as soon as possible for the 2023-2024 school year. You can learn more about the enrollment process by clicking on the ENROLLMENT icon on the District homepage.

Playground notes
Greetings Horizon Families,
What a whirlwind of weather we’ve had recently! We’ve gone from negative 30 degrees temperatures with wind chills and three snow days to 40 degrees and rain! With this in mind, please remember to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature may throw at us. It’s always a good idea to have snow pants and boots. Even on rainy days they really help keep pants and feet dry.
One of the recess highlights for some of our Hawks is saying hi to dog owners and their dogs as they walk past. Meeting new furry friends is exciting, but remember we should not put our hands through the fence to pet dogs, no matter how friendly they seem. Instead, let’s give them a wave or a hello.
Finally, we’d like to give a shout out to the students that have been sharing the playground equipment so well so that everyone has an opportunity to take a turn. Well done!
Warmly,
The playground team.
