Mar Vista Parent Newsletter

Week of September 28, 2020

Dear Families,

Thanks for continuing to read the Parent Newsletter. I'll continue to try to include as much up-to-date info as possible in one place. Need to find archived newsletters? Just go to the school website and look under the Parent tab.

Please make sure to visit the distribution times to pick up materials. If you have any challenges making those times, please call our office to schedule a different pick up time. Our office can be reached at (831)761-6177 on Monday through Friday between 7am and 4pm.

Thanks for supporting Drive 4 Schools! MVP Treasurer, Ashley Bridges will be selling tickets during distribution tomorrow! We look forward to another great year and hope that someone from Mar Vista wins the $25,000!!!

Thank you,

Stephanie Monroe

Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update

Hi, Families!

Thanks to all of you for your support in helping to make the MAP test a success for 2nd-6th graders. There were obviously some challenges faced, but the patience of students, teachers, and you parents, helped to make it fairly seamless. This week we will continue with the reading portion and I will be doing make-ups the following week.

All 3rd-6th graders can pick up whiteboards and whiteboard markers from 8-10 and 3-5 this coming Monday during distribution.

MVPs - Drive 4 Schools!!!

From the MVPs:

Well, we are moving into the second week of our Drive for Schools Fundraiser and we are far from our goal. Still, we hope to encourage our Mar Vista community to remember this is usually our largest fundraiser for our MVP club and the MVP’s support not only the school but also the teachers and all of the students.

We kindly ask that each family purchase at least $50 in tickets- that’s 2 packs of 6 tickets.

The drawing for the grand prize will be held at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in November 1st but all tickets must be purchased online no later than 5pm on Sunday the 25th of October.

Remember the grand prize is $20,000 but there are also many other local prizes.

The link to purchase tickets is

https://checkout.square.site/buy/54QP2FABCES74BZPBRQJPECG

All tickets will be filled out and your portion of the stubs will be mailed to you at the end of the purchase week so try to purchase tickets as soon as you can!

Don’t forget to post on your social media page... this is free money for the school as mar Vista gets to keep 100% of the ticket sales!!!!

Let’s go SEALIONS!!!!

Virtual Recess

Virtual Recess is going strong with read-alouds and social interaction time. We hope students will find a time to connect, chat, share and just hang out in a safe, monitored environment supervised by Mar Vista yard duties. See times below:

TK/K - 10:30-10:45. Storytime/discussion Link

1st-3rd - 10:45-11:00 and 12:20-12:40 Storytime/discussion and Social time (sharing and talking) Link

4th-6th - 12:40-1:00 Social time Link

Over time, we will introduce more thematic recesses and will be seeking ideas from the students who attend. If your child has a good idea for how Virtual Recess can be spent, have him/her share it with the yard duty staff!
