Updates/Reminders:
End of the Year Important Updates/Information: please read this document carefully and let us know if you have questions. Classroom Teachers, please send the highlighted part home in your weekly email/dojo/etc. We want to ensure as many as can come to pick up student belongings. If people share that they have a conflict with the day/time, please have them contact Paulette.
End of Year Checklist - please continue working on the things you can work on to help wrap up the year! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions/needs.
District Instructional Staff Survey - your voice matters! - please take a few minutes to take this survey before June 11th. When our campuses closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, we continued serving students through at-home learning. Please use the following link below to access the survey about what you experienced with at-home learning. The survey closes June 11. The recently passed North Carolina Senate Bill 704 requires each school district in North Carolina to develop a remote-learning plan for the 2020-21 school year. Your feedback will help shape our plan and allow us to better support you with resources and training. We will share more information once the plan is finalized. Thank you for remaining present for our students during what are unprecedented times. You did it with creativity, dedication and flexibility, and we’re proud of what you accomplished: bit.ly/3cizf2N

SLT Retreat - We are going to postpone our SLT retreat until we have more details about the 20-21 year. We will plan to schedule a time for late July/early August and invite all that are interested in attending!
Summer Reading: CCS will continue to encourage reading over the summer. Please hype your kids up this week and share with them that there will be a log in their belonging bag for recording time read. You can also share this link for the Summer Reading Log with parents if you would like. This log can be turned in when we return for prizes! Remind students of all the online reading resources like Myon that they have access to over the summer. Reach 20 is the Goal! 20 hours of reading over the summer can reverse summer learning loss! Any student who returns a log will get a summer reading pen and name in drawing for big prizes. Any who reach the 20 hours will get additional fun prizes plus a chance for the big prizes. Also we will have BIG prizes for top readers and top growth over the summer.
Computer Returns: We are NOT collecting laptops from students prior to summer UNLESS they are not returning to the district. If they are moving we will ask them to return the laptop/charger. So, to reiterate, if the student is leaving the district they will need to return their loaner laptop/charger otherwise they can keep their tech until further notice. In an attempt to make this as convenient as possible, families who are leaving the district can return the loaner laptop/charger to the front office anytime Monday - Friday between the hours of 9AM and 2PM. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeff Taylor. Please add this information into your Monday emails to families.
Cumulative Folders: Shout out to Evonne!! She will be working to complete your cum folders this year so you don’t have to. Please be sure you do the following for her:
K-2 print your report cards and put them in her mailbox
K-5 email her and let her know when you are completely finished your EOY Progress letters so she can print 2 copies. One to be mailed, and one for the cum folders.
K-4, please make sure your Summer Learning students have the district blurb on their Progress Letters before you email Evonne that you are finished.
K-5 print all your students’ iStation “Student Summary Handout” Reports and put them in her mailbox.
Vertical Conversations: Here is your Vertical Conversations schedule. All conversations will be held June 12th. The schedule contains your grade level’s meeting times, Zoom links, and agendas. The agendas are not complete because they need your input! Questions were asked in PLCs for you to think about. Please look at both the agendas for your grade level and add your essential information/essential questions before we meet on Friday. This will help us have productive conversations. If there are support staff that would like to join the conversations for certain grade levels, you are more than welcome! However only homeroom teachers are expected to attend. It is up to your PLC if all of you attend both meetings, or if you divide and conquer. There will be a time during the meeting for us to do breakout groups for traditional and DL conversations if that is deemed necessary by the teachers.
Summer Learning Lists: A HUGE thank you to all the K-4 teachers who have been navigating multiple emails and documents regarding your grade level lists. This has been a very rushed and stressful process and you all have handled it like serious rock stars! On Friday, the state required that there not only be a summer learning program for reading, but also one for math. So….here we go again!! Identified students in K-4 will now have opportunities to attend both a summer learning program for math AND/OR one for reading. One does not trump the other. Students can be invited to and attend both. If you have a student who is invited for math, you will use the same blurb as for reading. You will just need to adjust the blurb to correctly say “reading” or “math” or “reading AND math”. In light of this new information, no one but 5th grade teachers should email Evonne that their EOY Progress Letters are finished until you know who your students are that are being invited to reading and math programs and you have added the blurb on their EOY Progress Letters. DUE TO THESE CHANGES, YOUR EOY PROGRESS LETTERS ARE NOT DUE TO EVONNE UNTIL THURSDAY, JUNE 11TH. Please email Mandy if you have any questions.
Grades K - 3. You will be receiving information next week regarding students who could possibly be invited to attend a summer learning program of some kind for math. Please be on the lookout for an email from Mandy. The district is compiling the data and lists now.
4th grade -- Your reading and math lists are set as of now. But some determination about students receiving “support” verse attending a virtual program is still being worked out, so hang on just in case more information comes your way and “support” blurbs need to be added or edited.
PTA Check Reimbursements Deadline!! Please turn in receipts/requests for PTA funds by May 31st. Requests for things purchased from May 31st - June 7th - need to be turned in by June 10th.
Online Book Fair Information - North Chatham PTA is hosting a virtual Book Fair with Usborne Books! Please see information here and take steps if you are interested.
Science Kits: Some teachers have already packed up their science kits and put them up by the main office--thank you! We know there are still several kits out in classrooms. On the day you are signed up to work in your room, please make sure you pack up your kits and put them by the front office. All kits will be picked up on June 15th.
