Weekly Update

Dear Families,

A big thank you to our Parent Council for purchasing an incredible variety of math games! We are looking forward to using these board games to enhance our problem solving skills, increase flexible thinking and math fluency....all while developing our students' ability to collaborate, take turns and learn from each other!

We are happy to report that two awesome programs will return to our school after March Break. A "Bricks 4 Kidz" program for students in Grades 1-6 will run on Wednesdays (10:55-11:35) from April 1st until May 7th. Detailed information and registration forms can be found below: please submit forms and payment to the main office by March 25th.

Girls in Grades 4-8 have the opportunity to participate in "Girls Inc": this program will run after school on Wednesdays beginning on March 25th from 3:35-6:30. Girls Inc School-Based Programs focus on fostering healthy, independent and educated girls through age-appropriate, interesting and relevant programs. Detailed information and registration forms can be found below: this program is free of charge. Please submit registration forms to the main office by March 13th.

We were so excited to have received a grant for $700.00 from the Rotary Club of Kingston! These funds will be used to support the development of a "Maker Space" in our Learning Commons. Our Learning Commons will continue to be a place where students and staff can come and read, sign out books, and enjoy our library. The change will be that in the "Maker Space" area, students can come and build, make and demonstrate their knowledge of the curriculum in different ways. For example, we will be building a LEGO wall. Students can use LEGO to make communities around the world, or solve many math questions with their hands and with their minds. Students will also be using coding apps to solve real-world problems that are extensions of what they are learning in class. This grant will be a huge step for us to purchase materials to get us started on our journey of 21st Century learning at our school. Thanks again, Rotary Club of Kingston!

A reminder to any families who have not yet signed up for School Day Permissions and Payments to do so: we will be using this easy, online system for upcoming fundraisers. Information about how to create an account and register students can be found below.

We are very happy to welcome back Mme Doherty, who will return to work on Monday. Mme Pasternak has done a marvellous job teaching the class while Mme Doherty was off. Merci, Mme Pasternak, et bonne chance!

A very important reminder to parents picking up children after school: do not park in the bus loading zone on Henderson Boulevard. This causes safety issues for our students. A guide to safe places to park in our neighbourhood can be found below.

Some amazing learning could be seen taking place in our school this week: we hope that you enjoy the photos below that captures just some of the fantastic teaching and learning that is happening at James R. Henderson!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mme Peart and Mrs. Davey

Sign up for School-Day: Permissions & Payments!

James R. Henderson Public School is excited to offer our families a new secure portal to complete permissions and payments online. With School-Day: Permissions & Payments, you will be able to complete permission forms and payments from any web browser using your SmartPhone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

Through this new online portal, you will be able to pay for items such as:

· Field trips

· Sporting events

· Student cards/athletic fees

· Hot lunch (where applicable)

The new easy-to-use portal will remove the risks associated with sending money to school with students, the frustration of lost or missing permission forms, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes.

You can sign up for a School-Day account at www.school-day.com and connect to your child’s events and activities.

With your support, we look forward to a successful implementation of this practical application!

Our next Parent Council meeting will be held on Thursday, April 2nd from 6:45pm to 8:45 pm. New members are always welcome, and there is free child care provided. We hope to see you there!

James R Henderson Parking Guide

Drop off and pick up times are very busy, and we want to ensure the safety of all of our students and their caregivers as they enter and exit the school. Please consult the Driving and Parking Guide below to see where there are safe, designated parking spaces that are all within a 3 minute walk to the school. The area directly in front of the school is a designated student drop off zone: you must remain in your vehicle and are permitted to stop for a maximum of 3 minutes. A reminder that parking is not permitted in

the bus loading zone on Henderson Blvd. or on the shoulder of Roosevelt Drive opposite the school, and that the City of Kingston will be enforcing this no-parking zone. Thank you for ensuring that you help to keep everyone safe by respecting our drop-off and parking guidelines. A reminder that supervision on the yard is from 8:55 until the bell rings at 9:15.
