Weekly Bulletin March 23-28, 2015

STAAR Prep

This past week we had 7th grade students prepped for STAAR:

On Thursday and Friday, 150 seventh grade students participated in the Kemah Writing Academy. The students were taught writing strategies through a fun, pep rally format. The students I spoke to were very excited and grateful in being able to participate.

The 7th grade ELAR team of Tom Weber, David Merten, Kim Ximenez, Ellen Conrad, Jessica Limmer and Tony Kosub continued their support of the 7th grade students by creating grammar lessons on Socrative.com and reviewed them afterschool while the students were waiting for their bus. As well, all the 7th grade students have been invited to participate in a Super Saturday Writing Blitz on Saturday, March 28th.

The support of our students continues on Saturday, April 11th, when the 8th grade Science and Social Studies team( Lisa Tieken, Coco Pena, Stephanie Kirtland, Katy Kaspryzk, Christen Cozart, and Kaycee Schoenert) will hold Science and Social Studies STAAR Review.

We all work hard during the year to prepare the students for STAAR and even harder the weeks before. But this energy is continuing afterschool and on Saturdays. Thanks for all that you do to support and encourage our students.

Mentee

Meet with your Mentee no later than Friday, March 27th to review 3rd Quarter successes. Also, do not forget that if you mentor a 7th or 8th grade student, write them a note of encouragement to do their best on their STAAR test. If you need notecards, Jo Ann has some in her office.

Spotlight Member of the Week: David Merten, Tom Weber, Jessica Limmer, Kim Ximenez, Ellen Conrad, Tony Kosub

From Staff Member: You created grammar lessons on Socrative.com to have the 7th grade students answer while they waited for the bus. Then you supported them by reviewing the questions before they boarded their bus. Thank you for encouraging and supporting your students.
See Mrs. Flores for a special snack. To nominate a Staff Member for Spotlight of the Week email a Cross the Line Form to Mrs. Gonzales
