The Husky Update
Highline Community Elementary School - Sept. 26, 2022
From Principal Diana Sanchez-Hart
Hello Highline Families and Staff,
This week, I have three important items of information to share with you all.
First, we are approaching another important point in the year called October Count. During this 11-day window, the state of Colorado monitors attendance five days before and five days after Monday October 3, 2022. Our attendance of enrolled students determines our state funding. Families, please do your part to ensure your student is at school each day between September 26 and October 10 AND especially on Monday, October 3rd. We thank you for your support!
Next, as you may have seen the "No Parking" signage on Exposition, we finally have received word that milling and paving will begin this week by the Brannan Sand & Gravel Company. Weather Permitting, work hours on Exposition between Havana and Peoria will take place from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Because our parking lot is limited on spaces and parking will not be permitted on Exposition, we are encouraging as many families as possible to WALK to arrival and dismissal.
Finally, we have not yet reached our fall fundraising goal, but we are well over 50% of the way there! The funds raised support each and every student directly by contributing to a new all-accessible playground! You and your family can help with the following action items:
1) Purchase items out of the catalog for you and your family.
2) Share your fundraiser on social media, by email, or text on https://www.ShopFund.com
3) Ask neighbors, co-workers, friends & others to purchase and show their support.
Please know that your assistance this year in particular will make a huge difference for our community. Thank you in advance for your participation in the fundraiser!

We hope you can join us in one of the many family events we hold throughout the year as Highline Huskies are Better Together!!
Yours truly,
Proud Principal Diana Sanchez-Hart

On Friday, September 23, 2022 Highline Community Elementary School participated in our LOCKDOWN drill, also known as an Active Threat drill. An active threat situation occurs when someone poses an immediate threat to the life and safety of students, staff and visitors inside our school or on our school campus. An example of this could be an active shooter, someone brandishing a knife, a suspicious unknown person, etc.
Our staff and students not only followed all of the prompts and expectations of the drill, but we completed the entire drill in 18 minutes. We take drills such as a LOCKDOWN very seriously to ensure that we are prepared in an emergency should this ever happen at Highline. If you have questions about the drill, please feel free to reach me at mailto:dtucker2@cherrycreekschools.org.
From our Family Liaison, Liz Calvillo
One of my jobs at Highline is to help families gain access to resources so that our students can thrive at school. We have a partnership with Food for Thought: An Outreach of Secor. Each week we receive food bags with pantry staples such as rice, legumes and pastas to help feed a family. If you find yourself in need of extra food for your family, please complete the form below to receive a weekly bag. I am happy to help support our students and their families!

A MEETING FOR EVERYONE!
PTCO stands for Parent Teacher Community Organization - This group raises funds to support our school with such purchases as field trips, school wide projects, or large school purchases such as upgrading our playground! The group meets monthly on the the beginning of the month.
Title I Family Engagement Nights - We hold four meetings where families learn about what it means to be a Title I school, how we spend our extra funds, and what we are doing to support academic, social and emotional growth. In turn, our families share ideas, ask questions, and meet other families in our community. Our initial Title I Meeting of the year is held both in the evening and during the day. Our other Engagement Events are held in the evening. They include our Literacy Night, our Math Engagement Night, and our Specials & Wellness Event.
PASS stands for Partnerships for Academically Successful Students - At these quarterly meetings we share a meal together, listen to student presentations, and learn about what our students need to be successful in the ever-changing global world we live in! It is an engaging time for our parents and guardians to learn together and from one another. Interpretation and child care is provided at all meetings.
District PASS Meetings - These are held monthly tied at high schools across the district. See the monthly calendar notice for topics and locations. Interpretation and child care are provided at all meeting.
SFCR is Strengthening Family Coping Resources - This group is AWESOME! Highline has been partnering for the last two years with Resilient Futures, a non-profit organization helping to empower our staff with skills for building cultural humility and Healthy Environments And Responses in Trauma-informed Schools. Families in our community deal with so much and this is a group that supports the well-being and issues our diverse community faces on a regular basis. Check out the flyer below for dates and times for this great resource for our families and caregivers!
