FROM THE DESK OF DR. RODRIGUEZ
Officers and representatives and voters, oh my! Our Student Government elections were held yesterday, and our students were definitely up to the challenge of winning hearts and minds all across the school. Candidates didn't make promises of free ice cream during lunch every day or of extra field trips this year. Instead, they told us how they plan to make an impact on our school for the better; how they plan to make positive connections with their fellow students, both on and off campus; and how they plan to lead our school with dedication, compassion, and care for their fellow students. We expect our officers and representatives to bring fresh, new ideas and activities to our school community -- ideas and activities that help us forge lifelong friendships coupled with wonderful memories. I am certain this will be the outcome of this election cycle. I am so proud of the efforts of each candidate, and I KNOW that they will make this year one for the books!
Congratulations to our Student Government Executive Board Officers!

ONE MORE NUMBER
RELEVANT MUCH?
Our STEM program, Project Lead the Way, is nationally recognized for its relevance and application in our ever-changing and growing world. This is demonstrated perfectly through the project our fifth graders just finished. "Infection Detection" is the name of this particular module, and it aims to show students just how easily communicable diseases spread. One student in each fifth grade class is designated as Patient Zero without the rest of the class' knowledge. Patient Zero must spread an infectious bacteria known as the "Glow Germ" through a quick game of Heads Up, Seven Up. The students then see just how quickly and easily germs are spread through a community by seeing traces of the Glow Germ on their hands. A relevant module indeed, and one we're sure students will apply to their daily lives. Thank you, Ms. Aguirre, for this awesome activity!
