Phased in face to face instruction
Due to El Paso’s decline in the COVID-19 hospitalization, the city is now categorized in the Orange Zone (see chart). The current Region 19 Zones Waiver, approved by the Texas Education Agency, requires EPISD to begin face-to-face instruction for a select group of students at 50 percent capacity.
EPISD will continue to monitor conditions and will make a final determination, in collaboration with other local school districts, on Wednesday, Jan. 13. If conditions maintain, EPISD will proceed with the return of students under the Orange Zone guidelines.
The Orange Zone indicates that all teachers now will be providing instruction from their classrooms. Beginning on Jan. 19, students who qualify under the Orange Zone guidelines may return to campus for instruction. Those attending on campus will receive face-to-face instruction from their assigned teachers in their designated classrooms. Parents still have the option to continue virtual learning at home. As a reminder, strict COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place.
Students who quality to return in the Orange Zone beginning on January 19 include the following students:
- PreK
- Kinder
- 1st grade
- AIM students
- Students currently in Learning Pods
- EPISD employee children
Currently there are 350 students who are requesting face to face instruction. In the Orange Zone we are inviting 50% of the 340 students which is 175 students.
In order to abide by all safety protocols, our goal is to keep the number of students in each classroom as low as possible. This does require us to move students. I have mentioned this multiple time before. Moving students is not something that I take lightly. As the principal, my priority is to ensure the safety of all students and employees. I care deeply for each student and I want the very best for all students. These are difficult times that include making difficult decisions. We have done our best to keep the changes to minimum. We have only moved students as needed to follow all safety protocols.
In advance, I thank you for your support. We are excited and eager to have kids back in the building. On Thursday, January 14 at 5:30 PM, I will conduct a parent meeting to answer your questions.
