Thinking in 3rd

Hastings , Simmons & Brice Newsletter- Volume 30

Thank You!!!

A few years ago, I was asked to write my "why". Why do I teach? My response was both simple and complicated. You see I never planned on being a teacher. My mom was a teacher. My sister was a teacher. I was not going to be a teacher. My decision to become a teacher came in August of 2000. On this day, I sat parked by the curb outside of the First Baptist Church in Caldwell watching two tow-headed little boys with Tigger backpacks as big as they were clasp hands and walk in to school together. As I watched them head off for their first day of school tears filled my eyes. My mind was fraught with questions: Who was going to teach my children? Who was going to celebrate them?Who was going to build the up when they struggled? Who was going to challenge them? Who was going to soothe their hurt? Who was going to believe in them? Who was going to love them? In that moment I knew what I was destined to be... a teacher. I was going to be the answer to all of those questions for some other parent. The oldest of those two tow-headed boys is graduating from high school in just a few short days and I apologize I may be a bit more sentimental than usual, but I want you to know that your child holds a very special place in my heart.

I have taught your children to the best of my ability. I hope to have taught them not just the skills they need to be successful in school but I hope to have taught them how to be better people. I have celebrated their successes both small and large. They have grown so much this year. I have shed tears over their struggles and then spent countless hours trying to help them be successful. I have challenged them to problem solve, think for themselves, and take chances. I have wiped tears, held hands, and hugged your children when they have hurt. I have believed your children could, even when the cards were stacked against them (and they did). Most importantly I have loved your children!

I want to thank you for trusting me to teach your children. I want to thank you for allowing me to share in their joy. My life has been forever changed by their smiles, their laughter, their grit and their strength.

Thank you for a wonderful school year!
