Message from Mrs. Fassbender
Happy February!
Next Friday you will receive your child's report card in their folder. You can also access this on Infinite Campus. Report cards are one of the ways that teachers provide feedback to parents on how their child is currently performing. We use a variety of assessments to help us determine scores. I encourage parents and guardians to look at report cards but it is up to you individually on how or if you share this with your child since the intended audience is adults. For some students a score can be interpreted in a different way then it is intended and could negatively impact how they see themselves as a learner. As a school, we want to focus on growth and learning and on trying your best. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out directly to your child's teacher.
Global School Play Day: February 2
Classroom teachers are planning for Global School Play Day February 2. We are going to provide opportunities in the class and outside on the sledding hill for students to explore, be creative, and learn with peers. We are excited for all the fun!
Thank you families for all you do for your child and to support our staff and school!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amy Fassbender

Peach Jar - School District of Lodi Digital Flyer Delivery System
In an effort to provide increased access to programs and resources that improve the trajectory of our students' lives, the School District of Lodi is preparing to launch Peachjar on January 25, 2023. This new platform will enable us to send important school and community flyers to parents and guardians digitally.
School-approved digital flyers will be sent to your email inbox where you can easily click to sign up for events and programs. No more digging through backpacks to find a lost flyer.. Additionally, you will be able to access flyers right from the homepage of your child(s) school using the Peachjar button that will be posted when we go live.
You'll receive a welcome email from Peachjar. No action is required to begin receiving this communication from your school. Look for emails with the subject line of "School Announcement and Opportunities for your Child."
To ensure you don't miss notifications, we suggest you add school@peachjar.com to your email contacts and click "always display images" when you receive your first email.
Peachjar is used exclusively for the distribution of school and district-approved flyers only. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose.
Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure parents and guardians are well informed about school programs, activities, and events!
Attendance
Families who have a student in grades 4K through 2 that will be absent are asked to fill out the Primary School Attendance Form. You can also access the google form on the district website on the Primary School page https://primary.lodi.k12.wi.us/.

Hand Washing Reminders Taught at Home
With the cold and flu season upon us, it is important to remind our kids to cover their coughs and sneezes and to be washing their hands to prevent the spread of illness and germs. Here are some simple steps you can teach at home.
Wet your hands with water and apply soap
Lather your hands together for at least 20 seconds, getting the front and back of the hands, in between your fingers and under your fingernails.
Scrub for at least 20 seconds, this is longer than you think (need a timer, singing Happy Birthday twice).
Rinse your hands under clean running water.
Dry your hands using a clean towel or air drier.
Thanks for keeping our school healthy! Jean Winter (School Nurse)
Vision and Hearing Screenings for Grade K and Grade 1
- January 30 - February 6 - Grade K Vision and Hearing Screening
- February 20 - February 28 - Grade 1 Vision and Hearing Screening
However, if you have a child in a different grade level and would like your child to be screened just let us know. We would be glad to screen them also. It is important to screen students to identify those with possible problems and to refer them to the appropriate healthcare providers to prevent any loss or delays in learning.
- Vision screening is done using a standard Sloan letter distance acuity chart. If your students wear glasses or corrective lenses, have them wear them to school on that day. Students are screened with each eye tested separately. Using the Sloan letter chart at the critical line, 20/32, the child must correctly identify 3 out of 5 letters in each eye to pass. Students will be rescreened if they do not pass the first time and parents will be informed by mail if their student does not pass 2 screenings.
- Hearing screening is done using equipment providing tonal stimuli at 1000, 2000, and 4000 hertz (Hz) at 20 decibels (dB). Students who do not pass the hearing test are re-screened at a later date. Parents are notified by mail if their child does not pass the second screening.
Please let me know if you are not wanting to have your 5K or 1st-grade student screened for hearing and vision.
Sincerely, Jean Winter School Nurse (winteje@lodischoolswi.org; District cellphone: (608) 438-3100)
4K Date Night - All Students in 4K are Invited!
Children in 4K are able to choose 1 special adult to bring with them for a date! Your child and their date will have a chance to take a picture together with props, decorate a picture frame together to commemorate their date, do a scavenger hunt, and read some Valentine’s books. Please do not show up before 5:30, we will be busy setting up in the cafeteria until this time and getting things ready for your date! Also, we would like to remind our families that during our events that we still want the children to follow the school rules, such as no running around the cafeteria and open spaces, yelling or throwing things. Please help us enforce these rules! Thank you so much!

Message from Mrs. Good - What is happening during library?
We started the Polar Bear Book Club. To meet this challenge, the students have to read, or be read, 10 (6 for Kindergarten) award-winning books (any award/honor is fine), record them on their sheet, sign it and have a parent sign it, and turn it in to the library. We will be taking their picture with Snowball, our library polar bear, and hanging it up.
We read some Jan Brett books, including The Mitten, The Snowy Nap, and Gingerbread Baby and made some decorations to hang up in the library, (you can see them in the windows!) Compared and contrasted those books to others and found ways they were alike and different. Read and looked at Caldecott winning books and learned that the Caldecott medal is given for the illustrations. This year’s winner will be announced on January 30th, and we can’t wait to see which book wins! We also read Goodnight Moon and then a book called Goodnight Lodi, by Christina Colucci, which was donated to us from a family, and we loved it because it showed things in Lodi, like the ferry, the bakery, and Spring Creek! (I purchased ours on the Barnes and Noble website.)
Each student received a plastic library bag. Unless otherwise directed by their teacher, we’re asking kids to leave their library bag in their backpack to put their library books in when they take them from school to home and back. This will help to keep them clean, dry, and protected. Thanks for any reminders you can share with your children.
Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions at goodamy@lodischoolswi.org.
Happy reading!
Message from Mrs. Weber
First, I am still smiling, thinking of the wonderful Winter Concert Program the Primary School Musicians performed this past December. I am so proud of not only their singing voices, but how professional they looked on the stage. The hard work in our classroom paid off.
Just giving everyone a head up on our end of the year concert on Friday May 19th. More information will follow.
