The Upright Digital Citizen
Respectful attitudes and behaviors that embrace learning.
Make yourself look good online.
1. Be nice and respect the feelings and privacy of others.
Post only what you would feel comfortable saying to someone's face and in front of your own grandmother. You don't want to be a bully.
2. Forgive the mistakes of others.
Don't sweat the small stuff. If someone offends you, quickly forgive them. If the problem keeps up, tell an adult like your parents or the instructor about the bullying.
3. Remember your work is permanent and public.
Once you write it, share it, or say it, it's public and permanent. Don't post inappropriate content or say inappropriate things.
Add value to the community.
4. Share original thoughts and expert knowledge.
Share your unique perspective and personality. Build each other up with constructive criticism.
5. Don't share too much.
Share your ideas and work but not passwords or personal information. Give others a chance to share, and ask for their thoughts. It's a community, not a competition.
6. Give credit where credit is due.
Don't copy the thoughts of others. If you use someone else's work, give them credit for their hard work. And always cite your sources.
Write well.
7. Be precise.
Choose your words wisely so others understand what you're saying and don't get confused.
8. Reread and spell check each post.
This simple step can help you avoid careless errors that make you sound silly.
9. Use Standard English.
Standard English lets your reader know to take your words seriously.
