HAPPENINGS
Welcome to our new full-time automotive instructor Benjamin Kurke who starts on Monday. As many of you know, Eduardo Cruz is retiring in January.
This past Saturday, the Green Club under the direction of Tara Barr and Brenda Stevens-Harrison spent the morning cleaning the canal they adopted a couple of years ago. Check out the animoto video created by Joe Zimmerman of Keep Collier Beautiful.
If you attended the CCPS Health Benefits' Fair at Golden Gate High School on Saturday, you probably saw the cosmetology students giving manicures to attendees. Thank you to Susan Resatar for recruiting the volunteers.
Culinary students under the direction of Chef Geri spent a couple of hours on Saturday at the Collier County Government Complex Farmer's Market selling baked goods and promoting LWIT.
Our 10th grade students are reading the Golden Novel, Night, in their ELA classes. Night is a work by Elie Wiesel about his experience with his father in the Nazi German concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchewald in 1944–1945, at the height of the Holocaust toward the end of the Second World War. Dulcie Neiman was instrumental in bringing Cesare Frutaci, Holocaust survivor from the Holocaust Museum to share his powerful story with students from all grade levels on 10/25 during two assemblies. Also, you may have seen the authentic World War II – era railway boxcar in our high school parking lot. This 10-ton boxcar is a mobile educational tool to support the Holocaust Museum's mission of promoting respect and understanding by teaching the history and lessons of the Holocaust. Students and staff began touring the box car on 10/24 and will continue their visits through 10/29.
Here is the schedule of activities for Red Ribbon Week for the high school. Students in tech areas are to follow the dress requirements of the program unless otherwise allowed by the instructor.
Tuesday, Oct. 28------ Decades Day -----lunch time activity ---dance contest
Wednesday, Oct. 29------ Cartoon Character Day– lunch time activity – fashion show
Thursday, Oct. 30 ------ Spirit Day—wear class colors ---pep rally 1:10 in courtyard
The PowderPuff Football Game will take place on Oct 30th at East Naples Community Park on Thomasson Rd (take Rattlesnake-Hammock to end cross over 41 and about 1 mile down on left is the park). Games will begin at 4:00 PM.
REMINDERS
PLT reflection forms for the month of October are due 10/31. If you are looking for webinars, Connected Educators has a ton of them scheduled throughout the month in honor of Connected Educators Month.
- The 2015 Benefits Open Enrollment is November 3-21. You must meet with an Enrollment Counselor between November 3 and 21. If you do not meet with an Enrollment Counselor during these dates, please understand that your 2015 benefits will default to employee-only medical and Board-paid life and that all other benefits will end December 31, 2014.
- On Tuesday, Nov. 11th the LWTHS Social Studies Department will once again be celebrating Veteran’s Day with a luncheon and high school classroom visits from veterans throughout the afternoon. If you or anyone you know is a veteran please let Joann Cassio know so she can extend an invitation to the luncheon. Last year many of our adult students who are veterans took part in the luncheon.
- Please be visible in hallways before classes and greet your students as they enter as this helps to alleviate inappropriate behaviors and is a great way to begin your class.

Tech Tool Tuesday is scheduled for Tue, Oct 28th at 2:35pm in the computer lab (2-233) with the topic, More Flippin’ Tools. If you missed any previous Tuesdays, feel free to visit the LW website for links to the ‘how to’ - you can still submit your documentation for an MIP.
The DEN Streamathon was a smashing success! Our fun learning was enhanced by the fantastic job that Angie Imbriale and Laurie Lattarulo did in creating and setting up the food and activities. Not only did we have many opportunities to move around and increase our learning capacity, but we were treated to valuable interaction with our friends at Discovery Education. The session archive is here.
