Smoking causes 1 in 5 deaths every year in the United States. More than 480,000 people die each year due to their own cigarette smoking or exposure to second-hand smoke. On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than non-smokers.
COSTS
The United States is the fourth largest tobacco-producing country in the world, following China, India, and Brazil. In 2012, cigarettes and smokeless tobacco companies spent more than 9.6 billion dollars on advertising and promotional expenses in the United States alone.
