A Hero Makes You Smile
Introduction to my Hero
According to Merriam Webster, a hero is a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities. Heroes aren't just people flying around in capes or a person running out of a burning building with a child in hand. Society tells us that heroes have to have powers and be supernatural, but anyone has the power to be a hero. A real hero influences you and goes out of their way to do something kind and unexpected.
A hero is a friend who spends countless hours studying with you to get a good grade. Picture going into a test feeling unprepared and being flustered by your completely blank mind. Consider the look on your face as you are handed back your test with a big zero written in the top corner. A feeling of disappointment immediately surges through your body. Your friend doesn't have to help you study, but they do. They help you to realize that they are there for you when you need them most. When you do get a good grade after studying you feel so proud and happy with yourself. Despite the fact that they are your friend, they are a hero because they help you to unlock your full potential and show you how to be a better student and person.
A hero is a person that advocates for themselves and does what they believe in to inspire others. My mother has been in a situation where she had to support herself and follow her dreams. She had to raise money for college on her own. She had to find a job and earn enough to pay for dental school. In the past she didn't have a lot of support from her parents, which led to her being independent. It took a while for her parents to see her dream, but in the end she came out on top and they were proud of her. She learned that if you want something, you have to go for it. She didn't want to let a great opportunity fly by her. Her determination was a sign of true self advocation. As one can see, both a friend and a mother demonstrate the true meaning of a hero. A person that influences others or does something kind and not expected knows the true meaning of being a hero. Many people do kind deeds daily, but the ones that define a hero stand out and make a person feel better about themself. Dictionaries don't have to be right, you can prove that you are a hero to anyone. As long as you can make a person feel better, you don't need superpowers. Think about what you can do. Do you really have to save someone's life or risk your own to be recognized? What about the small things that brighten a stranger’s day? In the end, a hero is someone that makes you, you.
Untouchable Hero Essay
Heroes are all around us. We may not know who they are yet, but they will inspire us at some point in our lives. From family members to celebrities, heroes are the ones who speak to your heart.
Bethany Hamilton is my untouchable hero. She is an amputee surfer that never gave up on her dreams. When she was thirteen years old she was bitten by a shark and faced a near death experience. She did not let this get her down, and she became a surfing champion. She is so determined and passionate about her goals that she will keep persevering until they are achieved. Bethany Hamilton shows she is a true hero through her perseverance and determination. A real hero influences you and goes out of their way to do something kind and unexpected.
Bethany Hamilton is a true hero because she inspires others to achieve their dreams. Bethany got back on her board and showed everyone that she could be a champion. She adjusted her board to fit her and she mentally prepared herself for the challenges to come. Not only this, but Bethany gives speeches to inspire others to do what they love, even if they have setbacks. "’I've been teaming up with Cobian now for awhile, and we started this 'Every Step Matters' campaign, which is kind of like getting other people to share their story of why we believe every step matters, because all of us have different steps in life-to choose or not to choose-and they can really impact our future,’” Bethany tells Tampa Bay Times. She goes out of her way to speak to people and help them. She is dedicating her story to helping others. She is persevering to get back to achieving her goal. She wants to help others that have disadvantages and give them support to do what they want. Bethany Hamilton did not stop trying to pursue her dreams.
Bethany Hamilton is as much of a hero as my mom. Bethany and my mom are both inspirational and go after their goals no matter what. They do things to make a difference and demonstrate their determination. They are heroes because they show that the ordinary person can achieve their dreams. They both do not think of themselves as heroes, which makes them more exceptional. Success claims, "Hamilton doesn't necessarily see herself as brave. When asked how she was able to overcome her obstacles, she almost shrugs it off. ‘I guess I just like to challenge myself and push myself harder to do things that I don't think I can, to do things that other people do not think I can. It pushes me. I push my own personal limits.’” She is optimistic and knows that she can do anything she sets her mind to. She did not let others discourage her and get her down. Even though she sometimes doubted herself, in the end she had a goal and proved to everyone that she could do it. This is like my mom. She does not let others hold her back. She goes for her dreams and influences others. Bethany Hamilton and my mom are both heroes because they do not hold back to achieve their dreams. If I were to ever meet Bethany, not only would I ask about her physical journey, but her mental journey too. To be a true hero, I think you have to not only take the actions to influence others, but also be mentally in the moment and persevere. I would talk to her about how much of an impact she has had on my life. She has taught me to go after my dreams no matter the circumstances. Bethany and my mom have very different stories, but still are heroes. Bethany influences me with her determination and physical struggle to go after my goals. My mom however, influences me with mental determination and way of showing everyone that she could make it through tough situations. I now know to keep pushing to achieve my dreams. I can not let small or big obstacles stand in my way. A hero can be anyone. They can be a person on the big screen or even in your home. A hero speaks to your heart to do what is right. As Bethany would say, “you don’t need easy, just possible.”
