Principal's Weekly News November 17th

Keeping you informed of all the "tracks" we make at school and in our community!

It's a Marvelous Monday!

Our students hurried in the door to get inside the schoolhouse where it is warm and cozy! Please read below, "From the Desk of Mrs. Fields."

Inspiring young writers! Through a program called The Six Traits of Writing, our students become refined writers, working towards the goal of publishing their best work. I have included information on each trait below. As I observe student learning and read student work displayed in our hallways; I see growth in every one of our young writers. Ask your child about their latest published writing? Encourage them to free write by exchanging notes with you, writing letters to relatives, teachers, or me, and keeping a journal. The JSE news will begin to feature high quality student work through "Reader's Spotlight".

Making "tracks" in the community Under expert guidance of Mrs. Koch, our Spell Bowl Team will do a fine job representing JSE at 5pm this Thursday at Washington Township School. They will be wearing their Spell Bowl t-shirts proudly this week. What an excellent demonstration of perseverance! Thank you team for your hard work and parents for your dedication to high academic achievement.

Excitement builds for Thursday's Candlelight Lunch! The JSE kitchen turns our cafe into a fine dining experience for our students and staff complete with table clothes and decorations. Students enjoy the Thanksgiving prepared lunch or their lunch from home as they sit together at long rectangular tables with the teacher at the head. Memories are made as students dress-up, practice table etiquette and use good manners. A special time for all! Thank you to the PTO for helping serve our students.

Have a great week!

From the desk of Mrs. Fields

Frigid temperatures are here to stay. Please let us know if we can help you secure a winter coat, hat, and/or gloves for your child. All students will go out for recess. To avoid the lost and found closet, please label all your child's gear!

Attendance: We strive to reach our high class percentages from September again this month. Rigorous academic learning occurs though out your child's school day. Teachers value the time spent preparing lessons to thoroughly teach new standards each day. Please communicate directly with your child's teacher if you have questions about what was missed. Thank you for instilling the importance of being present at school each day.

Annual JSE Holiday Food Drive THIS WEEK

Our holiday food drive is a collaborative effort with UTSC and directly benefits Union Township families during the holiday season. A flier went home home in Thursday Folders with more information. Thank you for your support!

Please view the PTO Newsletter attached to this e-mail.

Spirit wear extended to this Wednesday! After the holidays, I would like to start having a spirit day every Friday. Students and staff wear their JSE and Bearcat gear or our colors, green and orange to celebrate our school. Proud to be a Bearcat!
