FAC Weekly Update
October 7, 2022
Good Afternoon, FAC Family
We had another amazing week at the Fine Arts Center, capped off by today's Music Faculty Recital. We are a school of teaching artists - not only are we passionate about education, but we also maintain our careers as working actors, writers, choreographers, architects, musicians, visual artists, filmmakers, technicians, and dancers. It is important that our students see us practicing what we preach, and today was an example of that. Along with our Visual Arts Faculty show that has been on display in the Sheffield Wood gallery, you can find us teaching at locations both nationally and internationally, see our work on display in the community, find us presenting at local and national conferences, or hear our music being performed across the country. It is an honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with our students in the pursuit of artistic excellence!
Here’s the latest from the halls of the FAC…
This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
Over the past few weeks, we have highlighted The Four Agreements, a New York Times Bestseller for over a decade.
The Fourth Agreement: Always Do Your Best
Under any circumstance, always do your best, no more and no less. But keep in mind that your best is never going to be the same from one moment to the next. Everything is alive and changing all the time, so your best will sometimes be high quality, and other times it will not be as good. When you wake up refreshed and energized in the morning, your best will be better than when you are tired at night. Your best will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick, or sober as opposed to drunk. Your best will depend on whether you are feeling wonderful and happy, or upset, angry, or jealous.
Regardless of the quality, keep doing your best — no more and no less than your best. If you try too hard to do more than your best, you will spend more energy than is needed and in the end your best will not be enough. When you overdo, you deplete your body and go against yourself, and it will take you longer to accomplish your goal. But if you do less than your best, you subject yourself to frustrations, self-judgment, guilt, and regrets.
