Working as a Team is a Best Practice
Last week I mentioned that we would begin focusing on best practices for meeting individual needs of our students. This begins, as you know, by having quality practices in place for the group as a whole first. This means we must put others ahead of ourselves.
In our classrooms when we focus on best first instruction and engagement with students, this allows us to reach the vast majority of our students academically. Best first instruction includes a focus on state standards, a focus on instructional strategies that engage students with the content, and a student-centered environment that is positive and encourages risk-tasking.
Within our staff, best practices include participating in collaboration with colleagues to identify these best practices, being open to growth and reflection of our own strengths/weaknesses, and maintaining a focus on the power of a positive team. Too easily, we can become disenchanted with the educational process and begin to identify flaws in everyone around us. The power of a great team and a positive school environment comes when we can encourage the strengths in others and identify our own individual areas for improvement. Negativity that is not controlled and idled will destroy any culture. I encourage you to read the Positive Team Pledge below and then commit to finishing out our 2020 school year intentionally focused on being a member of a positive team here at THS. If you are struggling in this area, I ask professionally that you stop by the office to visit with me about that struggle so that we can move forward together.
Important Info
I will be emailing the agenda for the PD on 1/20 soon. Plan to be here from 8:00-3:00. We will be working on alignment of standards and depth of knowledge across the district from Pre-K - 12th among other things. You will need your standards (state or national) and familiarity with Bloom's Taxonomy for that day.
