Threat Assessments
Threat assessments are one of the many resources we use at South Shades Crest to keep our students and school safe. There are many words that students may use in games and play that are considered inappropriate at school. Mrs. Bain, school counselor, has been discussing with the students about threats and threatening terms (example: kill, shoot, blow up). Threats are taken seriously at South Shades Crest. Once made, a threat assessment has to be completed to determine credibility. Please take a moment to discuss with your child threatening words and remind them that they are not appropriate to say at school.
Erin’s Law
The deadline to opt-out is Friday, January 17th.
If you need a paper opt-out form, please email Erika Bain at ebain@hoover.k12.al.us
Attention All Parents: To comply with Erin’s Law, HCS school counselors and administrators have created a plan to provide basic child sexual abuse prevention lessons for students. We have prepared a brief video that outlines plans for elementary, middle and high school levels. You will find more detailed information on HCS’s plan to implement Erin’s Law, including the option for your child to opt-out of these lessons if you so choose. This information is also available in Spanish.

Bus Expectations
The actions of the students riding the bus are the number one influencer of how safe the bus is. While riding the bus, students are expected to stay seated in the seat, keep their hands to themselves, keep their voices at a low level, and do not stick anything out the windows. Please take a moment to review the bus expectations with your children to help us keep the buses as safe as possible.

PTO Fundraising 2019-2020
What are our fundraisers? Our major fundraisers include our annual fall Change for Change drive and our spring Fairy Tale Festival. Throughout the year we will also have school spirit nights, everyday fundraisers, PTO dues and donations, and offer spirit wear. This handout will give you a look ahead at what to expect during the school year and let you know how much money we hope to raise at each event.
Fairy Tale Festival Friday, February 28th, 2020 Last year we introduced a new fundraiser that was a huge success! We hope you’ll join us for dancing, stories, activities, character photos, dessert and much more! Dress up as your favorite fairy tale character if you wish. Our Fairy Tale Festival is a community-wide event so bring a neighbor or a friend. Tickets are needed for children 2 and up, and they are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. All activities are included in the ticket price and Chick-fil-A will be available for purchase with 10% of sales donated to SSC! The Fairy Tale Festival will also kick off our silent auction fundraiser. The goal of this event, including the auction, is to raise $9,000 for our school.
Spirit Nights There will be four spirit nights held throughout the year - two in the fall and two in the spring. The goal for our Spirit Nights is to raise $1,000 total ($250 per event) for our school.

Everyday fundraisers - Our everyday fundraisers are ways that you can help us raise money for SSC with things you’re already buying. They include Planet Fundraiser, Box Tops for Education, Publix Partners, and Coca-Cola Give. The goal of our everyday fundraisers is to raise $3,100 for our school.
