The Au Gres-Sims School District
www.ags-schools.org
Hello Au Gres-Sims Families,
The second quarter of the school year is off to a great start as we welcomed back our full complement of secondary students to the building this week. Having additional bodies in the building has meant that we have taken some additional precautions to maintain our student safety and distancing. Several of our middle and high school classes have numbers in the high twenties in terms of students that have selected the in-person hybrid schedule. While this was not a problem when we had the separate Maroon and Gold groups it did present a distancing hurdle that we had to address. For these specific sections, we have relocated the class to a much larger learning environment, the innovation lab, which enables us to seat a class of 30 more than six feet apart.
This is just a reminder to all of our families, in-person hybrid and 100% virtual, that our grab and go meals are still available. The pick up is on Wednesdays from 11-1 and provides enough food for breakfast and lunch for all of our students and their different learning options. For our in-person hybrid students this is breakfast and lunch for one day (Wednesday). For our 100% virtual students this is five breakfasts and five lunches. The location for the pick up has been the back bus loop, but when the front parking lot is open and available, food service will take place under the new awning on the elementary side of the front parking lot.
We are happy to announce some very good news on the arrival and departure fronts of school. This week Au Gres-Sims welcomed two new bus drivers to our staff and they have both gone through the requirements to start driving for the district. While we are always looking for additional qualified substitute drivers, the hirings have now filled our full-time driver ranks, which we hope will bring more consistency to our morning and afternoon routes. Aiding in the transportation process is the news that this week the paving of the front parking lot was completed. Look for more information from Mr. Zeien about altered procedures that will take advantage of this completed construction project.
Good luck to our Au Gres-Sims Football team as they travel on Saturday to Kindle North Huron HS for a 5pm game in the first round of the MHSAA Playoffs. Have a wonderful Halloween weekend everyone. See you in November (next week)! #WolverinesLead #AGSInThisTogether.

Update
We are just wrapping up the end of our fall sports seasons. Junior High football just wrapped up an undefeated season and is already starting practice for basketball. Our high school football team qualified for playoffs and will be playing at Kinde North Huron on Saturday at 5:00 pm. Tickets for the game can still be purchased using the link below.
This year we also have the opportunity to host districts for girls volleyball. Games kick off on Monday at 6:00 pm, but our Lady Wolverines will play in the second game of the evening against Charlton Heston Academy with the game slated to begin at 7:15 pm. The winner of our game will move onto the 2nd round and play Wednesday at 7:15 pm against Hale. The winner of that game will then play in the finals on Friday at 7:00 pm against the winner of the other half of the bracket.
In a time of the year in which general illnesses are an issue, families need to make sure they are taking care of themselves by exercising, getting enough rest, eating healthy, and staying hydrated by drinking a lot of water. At school, our secondary students are doing just that. So far, our middle school bottle filler has already recorded over 400 bottles that have been filled! Stay healthy Wolverines!
Mother Nature is making it difficult finishing our parking lot project. It is anticipated that over the weekend we will have the parking lot striped and ready to use on Monday. If this is the case, I will do a School Messenger on Sunday letting everyone know and will quickly remind everyone about the new parking lot protocols. Until then, we will continue to operate using the same procedures as what we currently have been using. Below are the times and locations for pick up and drop off when we are finally able to transition into using our new parking lot.

It is hard to believe that we are already into marking period 2. A new marking period means a clean slate, and an opportunity to start again and change direction. If a student struggled in the first marking period, a strong 2nd marking period and semester exam can make all the difference! Both parents and students can always stay on top of academic progress by checking their Skyward accounts on a regular basis.
Report cards and NWEA scores will be sent out in the coming days along with other important documents from both elementary and secondary. We will also be passing out marking period awards and recognitions from marking period 1. Although we will not hold the typical assemblies, it is still important that we recognize students for a job well done! We are also very excited to host our elementary conferences next week. These will be held virtually in order to follow or district safety protocols. Please be sure to set up a time to meet with your child’s teacher.
It was an eventful week in secondary, with both Seminar and House starting. We have had to structure both of these important programs a little differently, but we are very happy to have them both up and running. Seminar is important to provide students any additional help that they may need in a specific subject area. Some sections of Seminar are focusing on enrichment as well, to strengthen existing skills and fill in small gaps from our extended time away from campus. We also kicked off House on Tuesday with the announcement of the teams, and today students were given an overview of the program, how to earn points, and specific information about the heart and soul of each team! We are very excited to start these team building activities, which started today with a Maroon and Gold spirit day! Having students back on campus and taking part in typical activities like spirit days, passing out marking period awards, or even Halloween, are the little pieces of normal that make us so happy to all be back together again!
