West Irondequoit CSD update from Aaron Johnson
January 26, 2022
As we communicated on Tuesday morning, we understand that a Supreme Court judge on Long Island ruled Monday that the state’s mask mandate is procedurally flawed.
The state appealed the decision, and an appeals court judge heard the case on Tuesday. A temporary stay of the enforcement of the Nassau County decision was issued while the appeal is pending. This means that the NYS Department of Health’s masking regulation and directive requiring masks in school remains in effect. Our district is required to comply with the regulation and corresponding directive.
We will continue to require all students, staff and others on school property to wear masks indoors while this litigation is in process. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to process what has transpired over the past 48 hours. We will continue to keep you updated on any new information.
Aaron R. Johnson, Ed.D
