LCISD Statement Regarding COVID-19 *Updated*
On Tuesday, March 31, Governor Abbott extended the closure of Texas schools through Monday, May 4 in order to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus. This announcement aligns with President Trump's social distancing guidelines and the parameters set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In light of this mandate, Lubbock-Cooper ISD will remain closed until Monday, May 4. The reopening of LCISD schools will depend on the status of disease spread and possible executive orders for further extension of closure. The Pirates Learn@Home initiative will remain in place to ensure students are receiving remote instruction over the coming weeks. Curbside meal pick-up will also remain in place three days per week at each LCISD campus as previously scheduled.
We respect the protective measures enacted by President Trump, Governor Abbott, and our local leaders. The health and safety of our students, staff members, and their families is our foremost priority, and we will continue to work with local and state health and education agencies to ensure we are doing all that we can to protect our community.
We urge members of our school community to adhere to the following precautions to prevent the spread of illness:
- Don’t shake hands.
- Wash your hands regularly.
- Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded places and maintaining six feet of distance between people.
- If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, please contact your health care provider for medical advice.
- Closely follow the parameters of the City of Lubbock Stay at Home order.
Much has been asked of our Pirate family over the past several weeks. We have all been challenged, and we have all risen to the occasion. Please continue to do your best to manage these unprecedented circumstances, and, in return, we promise our support in every way possible. This storm will pass, and we will be reunited soon.
