The Character Education Theme for this month is Citizenship and School

Pride. It is important that we realize the importance of contributing to our

school and our community. Building citizenship skills helps us feel that we

can contribute to others and benefit our community.

Students, it is important that you provide your school with valuable assistance when you volunteer to assist a teacher, an administrator or someone in need of assistance and that sets the foundation for you to become active citizens in adulthood. So, how can you help your community today?

6722 Uvalde Road

Houston, TX

The Demoiselle Diamonds organization was established in 2009 and extended to North Shore Middle School in 2017. The Distinguished Debonair organization was established in 2015. These organizations were created to build self-esteem and to embrace all young ladies and young gentleman who have a desire to give back to their community and to one day become leaders in society. Our goal is for our students to positively impact the lives of the student body and the community. Our success will be based on the depth of commitment, vision and confidence of its members.

During the school year, students who are in these organizations will have an opportunity to demonstrate citizenship and leadership skills through service projects, field trips throughout and around the city, academic workshops, and tour one college campus. Our goal is to provide our students with the tools needed to be successful inside and outside the classroom.

Demoiselle Diamonds and Distinguished Debonaires must take academia and good behavior seriously and maintain no less than a grade of (C) in all classes and conduct grade no lower than (S).

Applications will be available at the informational meeting on September 19, 2019. For more information please ask for Ms. Leger or Ms. J. Taylor.

National Junior Honor Society Information

The National Junior Honor Society is a great academic honor that requires students to meet the NJHS requirements for entry set by their school and maintain the organization's standards of excellence. Doing so usually requires maintaining a high grade point average (GPA) of at least a 91 for the entire first semester of school. Students must possess the four primary characteristics that NJHS emphasizes which include scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship and perform a certain amount of community service each year.

The NJHS serves the purpose of recognizing students for their noteworthy academic achievements and guiding them towards an interest in civil responsibility and service, in addition to academic success. Each chapter and each member of the organization must complete a certain amount of service hours as well. This community service component of the National Junior Honor Society membership has existed since the beginning of the organization: the founders believed that connecting students to their communities was just as important as fostering an interest in academic performance.

Should your student meet the above requirements, they will be expected to attend a ceremony to be inducted. For more information, please ask for Ms. Bean.
