Message from MBM
NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL: Friday, November 8th was Mrs. Santosuosso's last day at Roosevelt School. Many students were kindly wishing her well on her new adventure. She will be missed. We all wish her the very best and thank her for all she has done to support us!.
I am so pleased to announce that we have hired a new assistant principal. Her name is Venancia Cruz. Her start date will be Monday, December 2, 2019. Venancia has been a classroom teacher at the elementary level in Newton MA since 2007. She brings experience in curriculum, conversational Spanish, responsive classroom, mindfulness, bullying prevention, and technology! She will be reaching out to parents herself when she arrives and we will make arrangements for parents to come and meet her.
Cell phone safety
An increasing number of students have cell phones because they walk home from school or have after school events. Students are doing a great job respecting the expectation at school. Have you taught your child street safety with their cell phone? STOP looking at the phone and watch for cars.
The Whole Child
What Does It Mean To Be A RAVEN?
Every week, during the daily morning announcement, we focus on the characteristics represented by a letter in RAVEN. We give students a daily challenge to try and mirror the specific expectation indicated by that letter: This week's letter is E-(value) Everyone. I can try to understand how others feel. I can appreciate differences in others. I can show respect to others. I can be socially aware.
What might these RAVEN traits look like to you and your family?

PE and Health CURRICULUM...Let hear from the parents!
Dear Elementary Families,
A committee of Melrose Public Schools educators has been meeting throughout this school year to review our wellness program which includes physical education and health in grades K-12. The purpose of the review is to document current practices in our wellness program, especially curriculum, instruction, and assessment. In addition, the committee will develop an action plan based upon the findings to support improvement in science instruction in Melrose. In the spring of 2020, the committee will present a final report to the school administration. The committee has collected student work, materials, assessments, and curriculum documents. We are surveying both teachers and students and seek input from families to add another perspective to the review.
This family survey asks for your input about the wellness program. The survey is completely anonymous and will be used by the committee in conjunction with other data to help inform the review. See link to survey or cut and paste the following into a browser: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DZDBNS2
Thank you for your time and consideration in completing the survey.
Sincerely,
Margaret Adams Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning
Steve Fogarty, Director of Wellness and Athletics
