Olson Outlook

July Edition

I hope all of our Olson families are having a wonderful summer break and have been able to recharge after a crazy 2020-2021 school year. While we still have plenty of summer left, I have a few bits of information to share in this newsletter before we really get rolling in August!

First, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to our new families, both of incoming 1st graders as well as those transferring in from other districts. My name is Stephanie Watson and I am embarking upon my 2nd year as Olson's Principal. It was truly an honor to serve the Olson community last year, pandemic and all. It is the people who make up our fantastic school, from the dedicated staff who care about each and every student to the involved families who partner with us for a strong school-home connection. And of course the Olson students are the ones who really make the school come alive! I look forward to all of us continuing in our work together for the benefit of our Olson Mustangs. Let's make 2021-2022 the best year yet!

July & August Literacy Assessments

We would like to get literacy information on each student before school starts so our staff will be ready to start delivering differentiated support as part of our Gap Mitigation Plan. Teachers will be assessing students in half hour time slots on July 26th-29th and August 2nd-6th. Please call the Olson office at (815) 338-0473 and Mrs. Furst or Mrs. Watson will schedule a testing session for your child. We will try our best to schedule your child with their teacher for this upcoming year, last year, or our Interventionist. Thank you for supporting these efforts to hit the ground running at the beginning of the school year.

Yearbook Pick-up

If you ordered a yearbook, please pick it up at Olson between 7:00AM - 5:00PM Monday-Thursday this week or next week. Mrs. Furst will send you an email if you ordered one. If you did not order a yearbook but would like to, you can come to the office to purchase one. They cost $15 and you can pay with cash or by check. Thank you to Mrs. Furst for putting together a yearbook that truly captures the journey of last year.
