Mastery-Based Spanish 2 Update

with Sra. Odom

March 21-25, 2016

Wow! Where does the time go?! Traditional Block students are finishing up their first quarter, which is the halfway point of the semester. Their assignments close; but, yours stay open! That's the great news! But, that doesn't mean that you can twiddle your thumbs! :-)

If we haven't talked in the last week, please text me at 704.336.9168 and let me know when you'll be around this week for us to chat briefly. It's critical that we stay in close communication, as you push your way through this course.

Remember: The main keys to being successful are completing all assignments (*well and on time*) (using the Schedule of Assignments), going through the direct instruction and practice as slow as needed to understand the material, taking/studying notes, reviewing the grades/feedback for all assignments to see what was missed and why, attending the required synchronous sessions, and asking questions when something doesn't make sense and/or more explanation/practice is needed! In addition, to me being available to tutor the whole group in the RLC's, students can set up one-on-one tutoring sessions with me, as needed. NCVPS has a Peer Tutoring Center that is also available to students for Quick Questions, Virtual Buddies, and more. World Language and Culture Club sessions are also offered for extra credit! (See the Culture Cafe section of the course for more info.)

What's the big deal with the "Required Live Classes"?

The RLCS' are one of the most unique, and arguably the most important piece of the entire course. They allow for students to directly connect with me and their classmates. I (and the other NCVPS teachers) always have a prepared presentation covering the entire unit's topics. We do guided and individual practice and students have the opportunity to get any/all of their questions answered! If they can't attend my session live, I highly encourage them to attend another teacher's session. Each student must attend at least one RLC per unit (for a total of 10 in the course). For MBL Students, RLCs are a bit different. Archives are provided to you and you should be meeting with me regularly (synchronously) to fill in any gaps from not attending live.

Extra Credit Opportunity This Week!
