Jackson eNews
August 29, 2021
I can't believe that this Wednesday will be September 1, and that we will have completed our third week of school! While visiting classrooms, I have observed that Jackson students are engaged and learning, and that our teachers are constantly adapting to ensure that our kids continue to grow every day, regardless of masks or learning environments! Way to go, Jaguars!
As you may know, Jackson receives federal funds for Title I programs, which are part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). To learn more about the Title I Program, we hope you can attend a Title I information meeting for parents on Tuesday morning, August 31, at 7:45 a.m. There will be a meeting in English and Spanish. Please look for more information below.
Our families should have received communication from the District, and/or your student's teacher, regarding the temporary mask measure that was approved during the August 23rd Board of Trustees meeting. All students, teachers, staff members and visitors, including parents and volunteers, are now required to wear masks indoors at all district facilities and on school business. This additional health and safety measure will be effective Thursday, August 26 through Friday, September 24. Parents were provided an option to request an exemption for their student and the results of those requests are shared via a Mask Exemptions Dashboard.
There have also been revisions to the Parent Notification of Positive COVID Cases guidelines. The new guidelines require schools to notify teachers, staff, and parents of students in a classroom or extracurricular activity if there is a confirmed positive COVID case identified among individuals who participate in those classrooms or activities. This process allows the notification letters to be specific to those most at risk of exposure while the individual was infectious. These letters indicate that parents may opt to keep their students home to observe symptoms or move their student to remote conferencing if the student is experiencing symptoms, awaiting test results, or is confirmed positive. If you do not receive a notification letter sent by your campus, in accordance with the new required protocol, it is because your child’s classroom was not affected.
Just a reminder that next Monday, September 6, and Tuesday, September 7, are student holidays and the school will be closed.
Thanks,
Kamili Carthledge, Assistant Principal
