More information about the contest
Do you like reading? If so you will be excited about High Point Public Library’s reading contest which will end with you being rewarded with reading the book of your choice! If you DO NOT like reading, this contest is still for you! How? You still will get a chance to pick a book that have really likable characters that you will get to know. What’s even more exciting is you will get a chance to receive a grand prize and a chance at public recognition! All participants will participate in a social where there are fun, games, and a chance to mingle. However, the 1st place winner will receive a grand prize of $50.00, a chance to attend a luncheon with your principal, your school librarian, Ms. Marks, and your family and a chance to meet authors Paul Langan and Ann Schraff. The 2nd place winner will receive $35.00, and the 3rd place winner will receive $20.00.
Additionally, the school with the most participants will be given a chance to have a pizza party during lunch that is on the staff at High Point Public Library.
Reading for learning and fun contest interest meeting
- This will be the first meeting will be held on September 28th to determine the number of participants and share information.
- The winners will be notified at their schools on November 6th.
- The winners will receive their prize at the luncheon on November 13th.
- The social for all the participants from the participating Title I schools in the district will be held on December 20th right before starting Christmas Break!!
- The date for the school-wide pizza party that had the most participants will be determined by the principal after October 30th.

Contest rules
- Students will get a chance to pre-select three books they want to read from the Bluford Series.
- Students will be given an option to read two or three books from the pre-selected choices for an entire month, from September 28th-November 1st.
- By November 2nd, the students will have to submit a response journal to one of the main characters and events that occurred in the story along with a brief summary of the book, which will include the main character, main conflict, resolution, and how the story relate to them.
- Ten winners will be notified.
- After this, the ten winners will present their response journal and summary before a panel of judges in which they will have to orally retell the story, how it relates to them, and explain their journal prompt.
- Three winners will be selected from the ten.
