ATTENTION SOPHOMORES!!
HOBY Leadership Seminar 2020-2021
The HOBY Leadership Seminar 2020-2021 will take place at TBD on June 4th-June 6th. Webster-Schroeder can choose two students to attend. The registration for the first student is $275 dollars and for the additional student is $425. Selected students who want to attend virtually the cost is $225.
What is HOBY?
HOBY Leadership Seminars are designed for high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, schools, workplace and community. Over 10,000 sophomores, representing as many high schools nationwide, attend HOBY Leadership Seminars each year. The seminars provide a high level of energy, encouragement and motivation, as well as interaction with peers, panelists and volunteers to nurture your future leadership roles. In addition, you will participate in hands-on leadership activities and meet state leaders in such as areas as business, government, education, media and the non-profit sector. There are approximately seventy Leadership Seminars held each spring throughout the United States.
What should I expect when I get there?
To be exposed to important ideas, including opinions that may differ from your own
To interact one-on-one with decision makers in education, government, and business
To jump in and discover more about issues impacting you and your community
To be challenged to be a person who succeeds in improving your community
To be challenged to commit to 100 hours of volunteer service in the next year to help make your community stronger, any way you believe you can
To make new friends who are also committed to making a positive difference in this world
To get less sleep than you’d like
And to have more fun than you ever expected!

Whether students are back in school, learning remotely, or participating in a hybrid model, we know they're working on their journey to college. The College Board Opportunity Scholarships program was created to help students complete steps for college while earning the chance at scholarships. Encourage seniors to sign up for the program at cb.org/opportunity for a guide to college and a path to scholarships.
The first step in helping students earn scholarships is to take the College Board Opportunity Scholarships pledge. When you sign up for the pledge, you'll receive a free digital toolkit as well as monthly reminders and resources.
Most students need financial aid to help pay for college. By completing the FAFSA®, students might qualify for thousands of dollars in federal grants, work-study, low-cost loans, and state and college scholarships. There's no other way to gain access to this money.
Encourage students to complete the FAFSA and earn a chance at a $1,000 scholarship.
•Completing the FAFSA is an urgent and important step—not just for accessing financial aid, but for staying on track to enroll in college. Research shows that 90% of students who complete the FAFSA enroll immediately in college—versus only 55% of students who don't file.
•Between October and February, the College Board will award $800,000 to seniors who complete the FAFSA.
•Tell your students to visit getfafsahelp.org for instructions on how to sign up for Wyatt℠, a free FAFSA assistance chatbot that answers their questions by text. When students sign up for Wyatt and text their financial aid questions, Wyatt sends answers via text, a familiar medium that doesn't require internet access. Wyatt is available 24/7.
