AP students should pick up a fee waiver request form from the main office or counseling. These need to be completed and returned to Ms. O’Neill. Students who do not submit the required paperwork by December 22 will not receive a fee waiver. Students must meet the requirements outlined on the request to be granted a waiver. Please contact Ms. O'Neill with any questions or concerns.
Get Free Help With Your FAFSA At Blake 10/30 - 11/2
The FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, must be completed in order to receive federal, state and institutional financial aid for college. This includes grants, loans and work-study. In addition, state legislators offer scholarships to students who live in their districts and often a FAFSA must be on file. The 2018-19 FAFSA can be submitted now at fafsa.ed.gov. It should be submitted by your colleges' earliest financial aid deadline. The state of Maryland's financial aid deadline is March 1 but many colleges have financial aid deadlines well before that. Check each college's financial aid page to determine deadlines and forms needed. Some selective colleges require an additional form called the CSS Profile which can be found on College Board.
Financial Aid advisors will be at Blake on October 30, 31 and November 1, 2 during lunch to assist students and parents with the FAFSA in room A101. Each student and one parent needs to create an FSA ID before the event. For the list of documents needed and instructions on how to create the FSA ID, please click on the links below. No need to sign up. Just stop by A101 during lunch on any of the above days.

Sign Up for the 2017 Influenza (Flu) Vaccine Clinics
Flu season is upon us. There are simple steps you and your child can take to stay healthy and help prevent the flu. That includes getting a yearly flu vaccine. The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will conduct free, injectable flu vaccine clinics on November 9, 2017, for children ages 3 to 18 at three MCPS high schools.
The clinics will be held at John F. Kennedy, Northwest, and Rockville high schools from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All clinics are free; however, registration is required due to limited vaccine supplies. For more information about these and other upcoming clinics, please visit the following website: www.montgomerycountymd.gov/flu.
Register your child at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/resident/flu.html or call 311 for assistance. The Flu vaccine may also be available from your health care provider.
Changes Coming to Public Comments Sign-Up Process at Board Meetings
Beginning Monday, October 23, 2017, the Montgomery County Board of Education will be changing the process to sign up to speak at Board business meetings.
Based on feedback from the community and the growing use of technology, we will be asking the community to use a Google form, located on our website, to sign up to speak. Rather than individuals calling the Board Office on the Monday before a Board meeting, the Google form will be open to use on the Friday morning before a Board business meeting until the following Monday at noon. With this new process, telephone calls will no longer be accepted.
Community feedback is essential to informing the Board’s decisions and it is critical that the Board hear and understand the different perspectives of our community members. By changing to an online format, the Board believes it will be able to reach and hear from more individuals within the community. The Board will use many outreach platforms to communicate this change with as many people as possible. Questions may be directed to the Board’s legislative aide, Patricia Swanson.
