Science 8 Newsletter
Hicksville Middle School
Welcome to Room 237!
I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the busy holiday season! In this email you will find major topics of study and assignments for the upcoming weeks. I have listed a date to be assigned and/or due date for each, but please note these may change due to school events or need for further review.
Grades for this week?
- You're as Cold as Ice: In Tuesday's activity, students will be modeling the movement of a glacier over a landscape (play dough) to examine resulting landforms. Project points will be earned on this assignment.
- Midterm Notebook Check: On Tuesday (12/8), students will count their notebook points earned for the first half of Quarter 2. Points will be added to PowerSchool and appear on the midterm report.
- Topographic Map Practice Questions: On Thursday (12/10), students will be assigned a series of practice questions reviewing how to read topographic maps. Notebook points will be awarded for this assignment.
Midterm Grades: Midterm grades will be collected on Wednesday (12/9) and sent home later in the week. Additionally, those students currently earning a failing or near failing (D-) grade in Science 8 will receive a letter and grade report to bring home on Monday. These letters are intended to communicate grade concerns and serve as a means to set realistic goals for improvement. My hope is always to communicate concerns early, so improvement can be made by the end of the quarter.
What have we been up to?
