Mrs.Myers' Weekly Newsletter
September 28th, 2015- October 5th, 2015
Notes from Mrs.Myers
Thank you for being so patient this week as I have been finishing up conferences and preparing for the end of the quarter! Can you believe that we are already almost finished with the first nine weeks of school?! The growth that I have seen this year is already amazing! A huge shout out to our class is that we were selected to be observed by an instructional team from another school yesterday! For 45 minutes of writing, our class demonstrated exactly why Gwin Oaks really is the very best elementary school in Gwinnett County, and I could not be more proud of them! :)
Here are a few things to note about this week:
+ Book Fair Buying: Book Fair buying time will be Wednesday, 9/30, at 10:30am. If your child wishes to purchase books at this year's book fair, please be sure to send them with whichever amount you have decided upon. :)
+ Halloween Bingo Night: This event is always a fun one for our school! Please see the information from last week's Friday Folder. Families can come dressed up in their Trick-or-Treating best and have a fun time together with our school community!
+ Monday, October 12th is a Teacher Work Day: Please be sure to go ahead and begin planning accordingly!
+ Enrichment: The flyers for enrichment went home in the Friday Folder from this past week. Please be sure to look through the list and see if anything is of interest to you! :)
+ Sharing: I have had many students ask me if they would ever be allowed sharing time with the class- I did this last year and it was one of my favorite parts of the day. I am going to begin implementing a sharing time during the day- a quick 5 minute block right before recess where if a student asks the day before, I will allow them to bring in something to share with the class. The point of this share time is to help the class know one another better. Many of us have different cultural norms, celebrate different holidays, have different sports that we play, and have different pass-times... This will be a time for one person per day to share something that is important to them so that we can know them better! (This is not meant to be a time to share the new toy that they got in their McDonald's happy meal, but truly meaningful things such as pictures from a celebration that has happened recently, trophies or medals from the weekend's sports games, etc...) 5 minutes doesn't seem like much, but it's a great opportunity for us to grow as a classroom community! :)
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask! Weekly Updates will resume this week! :)

We talked about the lunar eclipse and the "blood moon" on Sunday, but unfortunately, some poor Georgia weather made seeing it difficult! Here is a video from southern France of the eclipse and the moon appearing to turn red!
