Board of Education Update
At its January 4 Organizational meeting, the Board of Education elected officers for 2017. Diane Adamec will serve as President while Paul Balent will continue to serve as Vice President. Special recognition goes to Jean Staubach who served as president during 2016. This was Jean’s fourth time serving as president during her 19 years of Board service. She also has served as vice president four times. The Board also appointed members to serve as liaisons for special topics. These are:
- Legislative Liaison - update the Board and administration on pending legislation in Columbus - John Mercurio
- Student Achievement Liaison - collaborate with Superintendent on student achievement issues -
- Policy Revision Representative- collaborate with district leaders on updating Board policies - Melissa Weiss
- Audit Committee Representative - Works with treasurer on the annual auditing of our finances as completed by Ohio Auditor’s Office -
- Sycamore Advisory Commission (SAC) Representative - attends monthly SAC meetings - Diane Adamec
Legislative Influence
Community Development Plans
- The City of Blue Ash is in the initial planning phases of developing the Summit Park location (formerly the Blue Ash airport). First renderings of the project include a three phase multi - use development. Corporate offices, a hotel, single family homes, apartments and a senior center are proposed in this 99 acre tract of land.
- The City of Montgomery is planning to develop the former car dealership land on the south end of downtown. This project, the Gateway Redevelopment Area, is proposing corporate offices, a hotel, shops and condominiums. Both of these projects are exciting opportunities for our communities.
Mental Health Support Planning Team
Other areas of focus include securing a partnership with a local agency to connect our students and families to a mental health provider within our schools and examining our process for accessing our internal supports. Members of our team include:

- Brenda Fisher - SHS Counselor, Belitta Croley - Social Worker, Ann Marie Brubaker - EHG Psychologist, Kim Gregory - District Behavioral Specialist, Jeff Thaman - JH Social Worker

The 2017 Artswave campaign will kick off in the coming weeks across the city and here at Sycamore. Information on how you can participate and new incentives for those that donate in 2017 will be coming soon.
