December is an Exciting Month!

Dear Denton Families,

Please check out the DES website at The December grade level curriculum topics are posted there so you will know what content is being taught this month. Be sure to reach out to your child's teacher(s) with any questions.

Congratulations are in order for Mrs. Melissa Gunderson who has been appointed as the second School Counselor for DES. Mrs. Gunderson is a certified school counselor as well as an elementary certified teacher. We look forward to having her support more of our students in the new year.

Welcome to Ms. Tara Gomez who is currently completing her internship with Mrs. Gunderson at DES; she is currently completing her coursework through Salisbury University and will graduate on December 18, 2022. Ms. Gomez will be assuming the responsibility for Mrs. Gunderson's 3rd grade classroom on January 2, 2022. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Gomez to the Denton Elementary family!

As in the past, DES students and staff will participate in December to Remember. This is optional and not designed to be a burden--just a bit of fun! Please check out the daily list from now through winter break!

Car Rider Changes

Parents should not be in the car rider area until at least 3:00 PM each day. With parents coming who need to pick up an ill student, they must be able to access the nurses' area and exit. This is a privacy issue as well as a safety concern. Unfortunately, Mr. Breedlove and I have heard reports of parents who have been waiting in line yelling and cursing at parents who are trying to get their child from the Health Room; this is unacceptable behavior when on DES property and will not be tolerated.

The new pattern in the car rider area in the afternoon will be labeled where parents can start the line. Do not pull up to the front of the car rider exit door until a DES staff member comes out to alert you to move forward.

Thank you for your cooperation as we assist our families who have ill students and wish to have their privacy and dignity protected.
