Blended Experience: Pre-K
Freeman Elementary School
Second Semester Blended Experience
As we return to in-person learning for the third and fourth quarter, things will look different from the past. This will include all students and staff wearing masks, which doors students will enter and exit, how they will travel through the building, where they will eat lunch and the arrangement of the room.
We will be providing each student with 1 reusable water bottle and 1 lanyard that students can clip their mask onto. Masks are required upon entering school grounds until you leave. Parents, if you pick up your child on foot, you will be asked to have your mask on while being on school grounds. As best we can model expectations for our young learners, the better.
Please send your student to school with the water bottle filled up as students will not be able to use the drinking fountain. Bottle filling stations have been installed in many of the drinking fountain areas for refilling purposes.
The purpose of the mask lanyard will be so that students do not drop or lose their mask when masks come off. Masks may come off when we take time to go outside for instruction, mask breaks, or physical education and can maintain social distancing. Masks will also be off while students are eating in their own classroom at their own desk. More specific information about appropriate times to take off masks will be shared by your child's teacher. ***Please make sure the lanyard comes back to school each day your child is in attendance. Staff will help students get their mask on these the first day and then we will ask for help from home. ****
The calendar you see below is the schedule for the third quarter of the blended model for in-person instruction. If you are returning to in-person instruction, you should have received notification as to whether your child is attending A Day (Monday/Wednesday) or B Days (Tuesday/Thursday) when you were notified of your teacher for the third quarter. Both students in group A and B will be attending on alternating Fridays (please see below schedule). The A and B days will be followed when your student returns to in-person instruction.
Please reach out to the main office at 630-301-5002 if you did not receive which day your child is to attend.
Please continue to check SD129's Blended Experience Webpage for up to date information and current guidance.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Pre-K student arrival will begin at 9:00am and dismissal will be at 2:30pm. If a student arrives after 9:05am, please go to Door 1 on Randall Road to sign your child into school at the main office. Students in the car line will be asked to open and close their own doors. Please have students exit on the curbside to avoid the driver getting out and slowing the flow of traffic.
In an effort to maintain social distancing and student health and safety, we will have painted lines marked throughout the exterior on the sidewalks and will use specific doors utilized for grade level arrival and dismissal. There will be dividers set up on the sidewalks to separate the flow of students traveling to their designated doors.
We will be utilizing the following doors to be shared by two grade levels:
Door #7 off of Glenwood Place on the blacktop: Kindergarten and 4th Grade
Door #5 off of the staff parking lot: 3rd and 5th Grade
Door #6 off of Glenwood Place just north of the playground entrance: 1st and 2nd Grade
Door #1 on Randall Road: Pre-K
Please see the included visual below of the traffic pattern and designated entry/exit doors for each grade level.
Pre-K
Car Line
Students will be dropped off on Randall Road and enter the building through Door #1 and proceed up the stairs to their classroom on the first floor. As you approach the school grounds, we ask that students are ready with their mask on, coat on, and backpack. We encourage you to have your student sit on the passenger side of the car and practice opening and closing the car door.
Walkers
Students will enter Door #1 through the main school entrance on Randall Road and proceed up the stairs to their classroom on the first floor.
Dismissal
Please make sure you have your orange (FISH) or green (OWL) car sign available and in a view for a Freeman staff member. This assists us in identifying your car and who you are picking up in a quick manner.
If you are in need of a new one, please reach out to your classroom teacher or the office 630-301-5002.
If you are walking to pick up your student, we ask that you are wearing a mask on school grounds and maintain social distancing.

SD129 Student Health Screener
Each morning, a link will be sent to the email address you provided when you created your Health Screening account. The screener will prompt you to answer questions regarding the health of your student and if they have had any close contacts to someone with COVID. Please have the daily health screener completed by 8:00am each morning. If the screener is not completed by 8:00am, the office will be following up with phone calls.
During in-person instruction, the screener will help guide you on whether your child can attend school that day. Your child will not be able to be in their class if the health screener is not completed. It will also prompt communication with our schools’ health office to see how we can help support your child during and after their absence.
All families who are sending their child back to in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year will be required to establish a symptom screener account and screen their child(ren) daily by 8:00am. Please use the link and helpful hints below to create your account.
Here are a couple of helpful hints:
The initial account should be completed in the parent/guardian name
To add students to your account, click on “My Students” at the top of the page and then “Add Student”. Once the account is created, you can add multiple students to the account.
Please register your student’s legal name, as you did when registering for school
Instructions to create your account and add your students to your profile is included in the video and infographic linked below.

Student Attendance for In-Person Instruction
If a student is not able to come to school due to an illness or scheduled appointment, please report the absence to the attendance line. Please leave a
detailed message as to the reason for your child’s absence, including any symptoms they may have related to COVID-19.
Please contact the office at 630-301-5002 to report their absence.
Building Protocols/ Procedures
There will be limited movement throughout the day by students; The following specials classes: Art, Music, STEM, will occur in the student’s individual classrooms, as teachers will travel to the classroom, with the exception of Physical Education. Physical Education will occur in the gym or outside (weather permitting). Students will be socially distanced and have their own defined area to participate in physical activities.
We have made some changes to daily procedures that have traditionally been in place to limit student movement throughout the building. Mailboxes have been placed outside of each classroom that will be used for correspondence from home to the office that our office staff will be picking up daily. In the past students have brought these items to the office as well as we have moved to an electronic lunch order count.
Grade levels have a defined zone in the building that includes bathrooms, staircase, and a bottle filling station. Classrooms are signing up for designated bathroom breaks throughout the day to limit exposure to other students and classrooms.
Support from home
Please ensure your child has had breakfast prior to arriving at school at 8:30am. We will not be providing breakfast in the morning. Students will be sent home with breakfasts, lunches and dinners for days until they are next at school.
Create an account for Health Screener and complete a daily screening for your child(ren). Bring your water bottle filled up with water prior to arrival
Bring your charged Ipad/Chromebook
Face coverings are required for students to attend school. Please help your child practice wearing a mask appropriately and extending the length of time they wear it.
Please send extra masks so students have a back up mask in the case it is needed
Please continue open communication with your child’s teacher and the school. As a school community, we need to work together.
Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather. We will be having outdoor recess as much as possible as weather permits. When there is rain or the “feel like” temperatures are at or below 15 degrees, temperature with the wind chill, we will have indoor recess.
Lunch in the classroom
This year, lunch will be held in each of the classrooms and students will be eating lunch at their own desk while being socially distanced from other peers. Lunch that is ordered from the school will be individually packaged and delivered to each of the classrooms rather than students going to the cafeteria to pick up their lunch choice. Students will be expected to wash their hands before and after eating as well as before and after recess, in addition to other opportunities to wash their hands or sanitize throughout the day. Lunch will be supervised by Freeman staff or lunchroom supervisors with the goal to limit the amount of contact from multiple staff throughout the day and each classroom will have their own staff supervisor.
