i - Ready Assessments

Students will be taking the i-Ready Assessments in ELA and Math on the following dates. Students will be taking the assessment first thing in the morning. We will then operate on a two hour delay schedule following the assessment. Please make sure that your child comes to school with a charged Chromebook on all three of these days. Also, help explain to your child(ren) that these assessments are important in helping us determine their skill levels in both Math and ELA subject areas in order to provide the best instruction possible to ensure they are all successful in school. It is important that the students take their time and try their best on these diagnostics.

Wednesday, September 28th - 7th and 8th grades taking assessments

Thursday, September 29th - 6th and 8th grades taking assessments

Friday, September 30th - 6th and 7th grades taking assessments

Below is the i-Ready Parent/Guardian Info Letter which helps explain what i-Ready is and how you can support your child(ren) be successful on these assessments.

Hispanic Heritage Month

¡Buenos días! We are kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month here at RMS. This national celebration runs from September 15 to October 15 every year. Hispanic Heritage Month was created to recognize and celebrate the culture and traditions of those in our country who trace their roots to Mexico, the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and Spain. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month we will be holding a trivia contest this week, as well as celebrating the music and dance of some Hispanic cultures in the weeks to come.

RMS Breakfast and Lunch Menus

The Rombout Breakfast and Lunch Menu's are posted online. Here is how you can access them:

1) Go to the Rombout Middle School Website

2) Click on Services then Food Services

3) On the left, click on MealViewer School Menus, then click on Rombout MS Menu

4) You will then see the menu for the month. Use the tab on top of the schedule to toggle between breakfast and lunch menus.

Refillable Water Bottles

We are asking for students to bring in their own refillable water bottles to use throughout the day. We do not have and are not handing out plastic cups for student use. This helps to drastically minimize plastic waste in our school. There are water fill up stations throughout the building for student use that save thousands of plastic water bottles each school year.

Security Guard Appreciation Week

This week is Security Guard Appreciation Week. We would like to show our thanks and gratitude to our security guards at Rombout: Mr. Yanarella, Ms. Piacente, Mr. Simmonds, and Mr. McQuade. They always go above and beyond to help keep our school safe and make school operations run smoothly. We are very lucky to have them. Thank you!

Important Physical Education News!

We have decided as a department across the district that changing will be optional for our students this year. Students are allowed to use locker rooms and change if they would like. Dresses, skirts, and jeans will not be acceptable. If a student wears athletic attire to school they would not need to change. All students will be provided a gym locker, but will need to supply their own lock if they would like to lock up their belongings in the locker room. Our locker rooms are always locked during the period. This will be new to all students, so we will be working with them at the beginning of the year to make sure everyone is on board.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Tobin, Mr. Mullins, or Mr. McPartland.

RMS PE Swimming Trip to Beacon High

Rombout PTO News

The next PTO meeting will be on 10/4 at 7 pm in the RMS Library. As a reminder, all RMS parents, caregivers, and staff are considered members of the PTO. As a PTO member you are part of the RMS family, a committed group who work together to create a nurturing, supportive environment where students can shine - academically, socially, and emotionally. Being a PTO member does not require you to attend meetings or volunteer. Although we really hope you do!

As a member of the PTO we hope that you will consider volunteering and making a donation to our group to help carry out our functions. Please check out our website, Romboutpto.org, to sign up for PTO updates and information and to make a donation.

We are looking for some parent and staff volunteers to help us at our West Point Concession stand fundraiser on 10/15. This is an all day event as we will be working a concession stand at the West Point Football Game. We will be arriving at West Point by 8am and should finish around 5pm. Please email Romboutpto@gmail.com if you can help.
