Classroom Spotlight!
Miss Gilroy's First Grade!
Reading Workshop!
In reading workshop, our class learned about AWESOME text features and the IMPORTANCE of reading nonfiction books. We started our unit by identifying the differences between fiction and nonfiction and applied what we learned to complete a nonfiction book hunt. We then discovered different text features that helped us understand informational text. We learned about many different topics like different sports and weather. Most recently we worked on reading our nonfiction books with a smooth and lively voice. Our class then practiced with our reading partners and some BRAVE students even read their nonfiction books aloud to the class (just like a reporter)!
Writing Workshop!
In writing workshop, we are working on writing “HOW TO” books. We have had some YUMMY fun this week. We found out that there are many different ways to eat an Oreo. Everyone was able to eat their Oreo just the way they like it. Then we turned the steps into some great “HOW TO” books. How do you eat an Oreo?
Math!
Our math time has been a lot of fun with us finishing up our latest math topic about related addition and subtraction facts. We made some adorable FACT FAMILY SNOWMEN. Maybe they will help bring us some winter snow soon!
