Dance Marathon raises $114, 572.23 for Riley!
Our Dance Marathon club and community raised $114, 572.23 for Riley's Children Hospital on Saturday, a NEW school record! Congratulations to the DM exec team, committee members participants, sponsors, our awesome community and Riley families for this incredible accomplishment. What an amazing event to be a part of! Super proud of our students!
Our students had a busy weekend of events and competitions this past weekend.
A few shout outs go out to:
- Senior Ike O’Neill, Senior Jason Rooney and Sophomore Porter Temples for punching their state wrestling ticket for next weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
- Our girls swim team relay of Ellie Hill, Alex Irvin, Alexa Boillat and Bridget Mick who finished 19th overall in the state in their 200 yard medley relay.
- Our Shamrock cheerleading team who made school history this past weekend by attending the NHSCC UCA Nationals and ranking 19 out of 114 teams.
- The WHS Band & Guard took 3 groups to competitions, making a clean sweep of all 3. Cadet and JV Guard earned a GOLD rating and JV won first in Regional A Round 2. Winds took home first place as well.
Important Dates:
This is the last week of Trimester 2. President's Day is February 20th and a federal holiday for all staff and students. Trimester 2 finals are scheduled for next week, February 21-23. Here is the Trimester 2 Finals exam schedule. On February 24th & 27th, there will be no school for students as they are teacher professional development days.
Juniors will be taking the SAT on March 2nd and it will be a E-Learning day for all students in grade 9, 10 & 12.
Attendance Nook
A frequently asked question regarding attendance focuses on the notion of what an unexcused absence is. To note, we have three types of absences: Excused, Unexcused, and Truant. Unexcused absences are not a discipline concern unless they grow excessive. Unexcused absences are absences that are typically not verified by the documentation we deem as excused (for example, a doctor's note). Truancy is the only absence form that carries with it repercussions for making up coursework and school discipline.

February's monthly theme is RESPECT
February's monthly theme is RESPECT. We dedicate each month to a Life Ready skill theme which match our CORE content as well as national awareness months. We have CORE enrichment sessions that encompass this theme throughout the month.
Additionally, there is a monthly nomination form for those students and staff that demonstrate each of our monthly themes.
For RESPECT month, these individuals care for the thoughts, feelings and perspectives of others and preserve the dignity and differences of others. They seek to understand people who are different than themselves and find value in others who hold opposite views from them. These individuals respect all peoples, races, genders and ethnic groups. They do the right thing, the right way all of the time and handle change with an open mind.
If you know a student or staff member who is a role model in showing these characteristics, nominate them today!
