WEB Sixth Grade Orientation -- Aug 29 7:45 am - 12:00 pm

Hello!

We are very excited that your child will be attending Lane Intermediate School and

we look forward to meeting your student on Orientation Day. You may not know with it being only the second year, but our school participates in the nationwide Where Everyone Belongs, WEB, Program, an organization whose sole purpose is to help sixth graders feel more comfortable as well as help them achieve success in their first year of middle school.

The WEB sixth grade orientation and transition program is designed to both welcome

and support sixth graders by assigning them an 8th grade WEB Leader as a mentor

during this first year. This WEB Leader is a responsible 8th grader who was hand

selected from a pool of applicants and has met the qualifications of being a

good role model and a positive leader on our campus.

Following is some information to let you know what you and your student can expect in advance of their first day of school.

1) Please have your Patriot join us at Lane on August 29th from 7:45-12:00;

2) A day or two before orientation your child will also receive a phone call from their WEB Leader personally inviting your child to orientation day and giving the details of where to be and what time;

3) Your child is encouraged not to bring backpacks, purses or other like items as

the day is quite active;

4) Because the day is active, please make sure that your child wears comfortable

clothing that does not restrict movement.

This is a student only function so we encourage you to let your child attend on their own.

We look forward to meeting you and your student on orientation day!

The WEB Coordinators - Kyle Malin, Joe Kloiber, and Lauren Hibbard

Principal's Message

Hello Families!

We are quickly approaching the start of the school year. I have enjoyed having an opportunity to meet so many of you at forms and fees or when you have stopped into Lane.

The start of the school year is so exciting - my own 8th grade daughter is anxiously waiting to see old friends, meet new, and get all of her school supplies into her locker. So, I understand how we are all ready for the “routine” of school to return.

Please, follow our newsletter and read our twitter feeds, @LaneWAWM, as we actively share information with families. In working collaboratively with staff these last couple of days, I am excited for students and parents to return to school.

Office Staff

We would like to introduce our office staff. Kim Miller is taking on the head secretary position at Lane. She is a returning staff member; we are lucky to have her friendly face in the office welcoming families and helping Lane run smoothly. Lisa Glynn will be joining our team on Sept 4th. She is taking on the role of mainly attendance and health related issues. For health concerns, Suzette Chern, will be working with families.

Please, take a moment to introduce yourself and welcome these faces to Lane.

Traffic Update

We have been looking at traffic patterns and in order to improve traffic flow, we have new designated parking and access to our parking lot.

PARKING UPDATE:

The parking spaces in front of the building will be open for visitors and/or parents who need to assist their child inside the school building.

Please, use the north lot driveway to access Lane.

Staff will park in the north lot.

Traffic Safety Guidelines

Traffic Guidelines: In order to increase safety and traffic flow, please follow the traffic guidelines for drop off and pick up.

Drop off / Pick up Suggestions: Here are some HELPFUL REMINDERS regarding student pick-up and drop-off:

  • Ride the bus if your child is eligible.

  • Pick up and drop off is on 109th St.

  • The parking lot is used for parents who need to assist their child inside the school building.

  • Keep students safe! Please exercise safe driving habits and caution while in the parking lot.

  • Pedestrians have the right away in the crosswalk.

  • If the weather looks like students should not be outside, information will be posted by the cafe entrance to verify whether students will be inside or outside before school starts. During “inside days” students will wait in the auxiliary gym until 7:35 am.

  • Students must exit the building by 3:10pm, unless they are working with and/or supervised by a school staff member after 3:10pm.

The weeklong educational program promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), while training students and with hands-on activities and missions based on teamwork, leadership and problem solving.

This program is specifically designed for trainees who have a passion for space exploration. Seija spent the week training with a team that flew a simulated space mission to the International Space Station (ISS), the Moon or Mars. The crew participated in experiments and successfully completed an extra-vehicular activity (EVA), or spacewalk. Seija and crew returned to earth in time to graduate with honors.
