From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Congratulations to everyone on a successful and fun Band Camp 2021! We were able to get a lot of great work done to get our Les Miserables show off of the ground, and I am very proud of everyone for their effort. It all would not have been possible without our parents, camp staff, and community supporting us! I'm looking forward to getting back to it at our rehearsal on Tuesday, 8/3, from 6:00 - 8:30 PM.
Thank you to Natalie Storch, Robyn Fodor, and our entire Band Booster Board for their work both behind the scenes leading up to camp and planning out the meeting on Friday. An especially enormous thank you to Ellen DeLoach for planning our Band Camp Meals in order to keep our students fed throughout Camp. Also thank you to Heather Ribaric and our team of OCPS employee volunteers for making the meals happen while we were under previous guidelines around volunteers on campus.
We've been posting lots of photos from camp on our social media platforms, and we will continue to post updates, photos, video, and other media to those pages throughout the year. Follow the Band!

Natalie Storch's Band Booster President update contains lots of information this week, and especially great information about our Program Ads and Sponsors fundraiser. This fundraiser is the biggest "bang for your buck" that we do each year, and it's a great opportunity to raise enough Band credit to completely cover your student's Fair Share. I encourage ALL of our Band families to take full advantage of this opportunity!
Have a great week! Looking forward to our rehearsal on Tuesday,
Mr. Clemente

Week of August 2, 2021
Thank you so much to all who came to the preview show and the booster meeting before the show. It was so fun to see new and familiar faces and get excited about the upcoming year. Everyone can contribute, and we so appreciate all of the volunteer help. Please see the Cuttime calendar (the “people” icon) for volunteer opportunities. Help is needed this week for uniform fittings. Please see the cuttime calendar for details or contact Robyn Fodor (robynfodor@gmail.com) for additional information if you can help—NO EXPERIENCE OR SEWING SKILL IS NECESSARY. Thank you so much to Jessica Fox and Mary Barnard (alumni parent) for all of your invaluable help with uniforms. We appreciate you both. If you can help with uniforms going forward, please contact me at njstorch@yahoo.com or Jessica at jhautzy@gmail.com. We will be looking for parents to help fit uniforms, iron uniforms, and provide uniform help during the games.
Remember, your Additions approval must be up to date (this should open mid-day on Monday on the OCPS website).

A HUGE thank you to all of the folks who helped with lunches and dinners during band camp!! We know many of the helpers do not currently have students in the band program, so thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm! Thank you to Heather Ribaric for coordinating the meal volunteers and to Ellen DeLoach for arranging all of the meals in advance. The students were well-fed, which is critical to a successful band camp!
Ad Sales/Sponsorships: These forms should be updated on the website soon and selling ads to various businesses and family members is a great way to raise funds for your student’s band account, which can be used for fair share payments and some other band expenses throughout the year. You may also pick up a packet of information in the band directors’ office. Senior/student ads are a great way to honor your student! Please be on the lookout for additional information about this wonderful opportunity for your student and the band program! An example of last year’s program is on the home page of the band’s website, and paper copies of past programs are available at school if you would like to take a program to show prospective advertisers.
Coming up:
August 14, 2021 (Saturday) at 8:30 am, Operations and any volunteers who wish to help will be washing the trailer. Please come out and help even if for a little while. We would LOVE your help. Please contact Keith Gavin for additional information and to be added to the Group Me for Operations. kgavin@sscands.com.
August 20, 2021 (two weeks from this Friday)-First game of the year. There are still spots left for chaperones for this and all of the other games of the year. We would love it if each family could sign up to help with at least one game this year. It is not difficult, and it is a lot of fun to meet the students and the other parents. Please see the CutTime Calendar for volunteer spots for every game.
If you do not know what volunteer chaperones and operations volunteers actually do each week for the games, please see the information below.
Chaperones-arrive approximately 5pm depending on the game (itinerary will specify), meet with other chaperones/coordinator, decide game duties and which bus to ride, ensure attendance is taken by section leaders, assist students with instruments, uniforms, and anything else needed, arrive at game, walk to stands with band, help with feathers for shakos (uniform hats), rope off band area in stands (home games), watch band warm up/get ready for pregame show, supervise students during game/3rd quarter break, help students clean up stands, walk with students back to the bus, ride on the bus back to school, generally back to school by 10:30 pm. Chaperones have fun!
Operations volunteers-arrive between 4:10-4:30 or so (OPS communication will specify) and coordinate student operations crew loading equipment, water, and other items into the trailer (i.e. percussion equipment, etc.), drive to game in vehicles, meet the trailer and coordinate unloading equipment, water, and other supplies needed for game, assist students transporting equipment to field and stands, ride back to school and coordinate students unloading trailer after the game, ensure trailer is unloaded and ready for the next event, assist with other items needed, generally finished by 10:30-11. The OPS crew has fun!
Please contact anyone in the band booster board with any questions you have. We are here to help.
Have a great last week of summer everyone!

CUTTIME
By now, all students and parents/guardians should have received a "You're invited to join Winter Park High School Band's data management system" email from the noreply@cuttime.net email address. Another round of these emails was sent Sunday, 7/11 around 1 PM. Please follow the instructions in this email to log into your CutTime account if you have not done so already. If you search your inbox and still have not received or cannot find this email, please email both me and Mr. Smith directly at michael.clemente@ocps.net and daniel.smith2@ocps.net.
Once you have logged into your CutTime account I ask that all students and parents please scroll down to the Contact/Demographic Information section. Then, find the dropdown menu next to Mobile Provider and select your mobile provider from the list. This will enable the directors to communicate with parents and students via text message, which is a vital channel throughout the school year. If a service provider is not selected on your profile, text messages sent through CutTime will not be send to your mobile device. Thank you for attending to this!

Volunteer Opportunities 2021-2022
Hello Winter Park Band Families!
Although we are just wrapping up another school year, I am thinking about volunteer needs for this summer and next school year and want to put this information out there for parents to consider.
Here is a description of needs the band has throughout the year. Opportunities exist at different times of the year, different times of the day and for different time commitments. Stepping up to volunteer even once is a huge help and you don’t have to have any prior knowledge. Please take a moment to consider if you may be able to help with any of the following areas.
Uniform help:
Time: late summer and fall football season (until November). Daytime and evenings.
Areas of need (can help with one or all three areas): 1. Uniform fittings at end of summer (no sewing- uniforms have snaps) 2. Wash and iron a few times during the season (usually each volunteer takes home 10 or fewer uniforms) 3. Help out Jessica Fox (uniform chairperson) in the uniform room before and after games. All areas are organized by Jessica, so all you have to do is show up!
Contact: jhautzy@gmail.com
Chaperone games, MPA’s:
Time: during football season starting Aug. 20 and most Fridays until the first week in Nov. Evenings.
Area of need: 7 parent chaperones per game to ride with students to games from approx. 5-10 pm. Volunteer once or several games. It’s a bit of a time commitment, but it goes by fast and is fun! Chaperone MPA’s: these competitions can be on Saturday or during the week and usually happen during the daytime.
Contact: robynfodor@yahoo.com
Operations for fall football games: Contact Keith Gavin (kgavin@sscands.com) to help with band instruments and equipment for the games, MPA’s and Parades.
Provisions:
Time: band camp late summer. Daytime and evenings.
Area of need: help serve meals during camp and clean up after. Meals this year will be lunches one week and dinner one week. It’s possible to help one day or several days.
Contact: Ellen DeLoach at ellen.deloach@live.com
Driving students during the Door-to-Door fundraiser
Time: a half-day on a Saturday in February.
Area of need: about 50 parent drivers to take 2-4 students to a designated neighborhood in Winter Park to walk door-to-door to collect money for the band. It’s the most important fund raiser of the year! There will be more information later in the year, but you can also contact Heather with questions:
Contact: Heather Ribaric ribaric.family@gmail.com
Thanks for reading and considering helping out! There will be more info posted about these opportunities as the needs arise and you can contact me at anytime for more information: robynfodor@gmail.com

PRIVATE LESSONS
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
