Teammates Coming to BES!
We are excited to tell you about TeamMates Mentoring Program coming to USD #416! TeamMates is a one to one school based mentoring program that prides itself on commitment to youth, safety, integrity and inclusion. The TeamMates philosophy is that ALL YOUTH can benefit from a mentoring relationship- from having their ‘one adult’ that provides a positive role model, identifies their strengths and provides guidance and wisdom.
TeamMates was founded in 1991 by Coach Tom Osborn of the University of Nebraska and his wife Nancy. Mentors spend 30 minutes to an hour per week at the school with their mentee, most often during lunch. Mentors are matched with their student based on common interests, hobbies and life experiences as well as preference for grade level. TeamMates mentees consistently maintain or improve their grades, attendance and behavior based on data collected through partnerships with local school districts.
Each TeamMates program is locally run, with a building coordinator and a program coordinator that facilitate matches and provide support to mentors and mentees. In addition, each program is supported by an Advisory Council that consists of local community members including business professionals, faith leaders and school representatives. The role of the Advisory Council is to lead the recruitment, marketing and fundraising efforts for the local program to be successful and meet the needs of students.
We would like to invite you to be a part of this program by being a mentor. Below is a link to the website where you can express your interest, get more information and apply to mentor. If you have any questions about TeamMates and how we can make Louisburg a better place for everyone, contact our office.
If you have anyone interested in giving one of our students just 20-30 minutes a week during the school day at BES - share this information! We have kids who need YOU!
Message from Nurse Candice
Dear Parents of BES students,
USD416 and Giving the Basics organization has partnered together to meet the needs of our students and provide basic hygiene items. Studies have shown that when a student has their basic needs met and feel good about themselves, their confidence is increased as well as their performance in school and friendships grow.
If you need assistance in obtaining these hygiene items such as toothbrush or shampoo please see the form attached and fill out and return to Nurse Candice. Paper copies will also be available at parent teacher conferences located in the main office.
