6th graders had fun starting off the week with a typing racing competition. They completed a "Broken Car" shape typing activity, participated in a class Padlet as they shared their passions. This is the last full week of computer class for 6th graders currently enrolled in computer class. Starting next Thursday, they will go to their 4th quarter explo class. Their typing words per minute goal is now 22 wpm with 90%. While some students have already met grade level goals, all students should practice to improve their skills. Students were instructed if they did not meet their minimum goal that they should practice at home. They may practice anytime at typingtraining.com. Students can even use their Chromebooks to practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. They all have their login information. If you have any issues logging on at home, please email me. You can monitor your child's progress at home and school by going to the reports menu after they have logged into Typing Training. Many computer students email to ask login information or for me to assign specific assignments on typingtraining.com. I welcome these emails and respond as soon as possible.
All computer students finished their week with Hour of Code!

Artfully yours!
Mr Chapman
FMS Art teacher
*Special Note: Mr. Chapman has been at home ill for the past few weeks. We look forward to him returning to FMS and his art classroom as soon as he is 100% healthy again. In the mean time we are fortunate to have Mrs. Nancy Foote subbing and making lesson plans for all art classes 6th-8th grades. Mrs. Foote taught art classes at FMS for 31 years before she recently retired. We greatly appreciate her stepping back into the classroom and FMS during this time. We also send positive thoughts for Mr. Chapman's swift recovery.

6th Grade Band: We have still been splitting out into sectionals for 6th grade band. The rest of the band who are not in sectionals have been working on pages 13-14 out of the band book. Students have also been asked to play individually at the end of each class lately to spot check for students who may need some extra help. Students should be practicing at home on their own every week. Next week we will be focusing on pages 19-21. We will be working on baskets for the basket raffle for the parade of bands on March 14, an email was sent home to students and parents. Please start bringing in items for your baskets, or monetary donations so items for the baskets can be purchased.
7th Grade Band: 7th grade band is now working on their new books in class. We have started a unit on scales and are working on concert Bb. The books will stay at school, but we have started a new warm up. The students can take their warm ups home and work on it at home. HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
The students are so pumped from a successful day Friday at Central Methodist University's Music Festival! They have definitely put in a lot of hard work in and out of the classroom and I'm so proud of their accomplishments! Their two selections as a large ensemble: "In Terra Pax" & "Everlasting Melody". These pieces have challenged and stretched these students and I have seen (& heard) so much growth.
Don't forget, the "Evening of the Arts" Concert is on Tuesday, March 7th at 7pm in the FMS Gym. This allows the students to showcase their work in their community after a successful time at CMU Music Festival. The choir will sing as a whole and some solos will be featured. A letter has been emailed home a well as sent home with students regarding this performance.
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)
HARMONY HORNETS:
We are so proud of the hard work these students give every Tuesday! Our amazing group is made up of a mixture of 6th-8th grade (7th/8th band or guitar members) and has great energy and interest in making great music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 3:20 - 4:15 in the FMS choir room (G07).
We are having so much fun with our songs this semester and can't wait for our concert all about Spirituals!
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.
HORNET PRIDE:
I'm so proud of how our students represented FMS at Central Methodist University on Friday! We have a talented bunch, and they did a great job! Congratulations on a wonderful performance!
Please don't forget our Evening of the Arts on Tuesday night, March 7th! This is your opportunity to hear our students share the music from contest with our home audience! We look forward to singing for you! Evening of the Arts is at 7pm in the FMS Gym!

ARTS ALIVE:
The final push for 3rd quarter is here! Students have been working very hard to show what they know about tempo and dynamics. We have also been working on a "Music inspires..." project to kick of Music in Our Schools month! To check out our short video that tells how/why music inspires us please click the link below!
We are wrapping up the term by evaluating music, specifically songs that were inspired by the cups song. We have learned to play the cups song, and students are checking out original compositions based on the same song.
