Gruening News

Message from the Principal

It is hard to believe that this week marks the end of the 1st quarter and Monday is the beginning of second quarter for the 2020-2021 academic year! With that, our students will begin three new classes! I do periodically observe classes via our Zoom format, and it has been fun and rewarding for me to see the good work our students, teachers, and staff are doing during these most unusual times. This is certainly a format that I never envisioned in my educational career; however, we at Gruening are committed to the education of your student to the best of our ability despite the current challenges.

I want to give you a brief update on the Gruening remodel project. The project is proceeding ahead of schedule. A few of us have had the opportunity to tour the school, and progress is being made. We are at the point where we are starting to select furniture, technology, and even lockers for our remodeled school. How exciting! I hope to include pictures in future editions of the “Gruening News” newsletter to give you a sense of how far along that project is coming along.

We have included a sign-up for our Second Quarter Open House. Please RSVP so we have a general idea of how many of our parents will be attending this virtual event. This is an opportunity for you to meet your student’s second quarter teachers. Scheduled times for each three class periods are listed, and you will use the same log in as your student uses to access his or her classes. Please consider attending this very important event. You will find it informative.

There is no school for students next Friday, October 23. This is a state released professional development day.

For those of you with students in the ASD Virtual program, the start of the second quarter is a good time to consider a change to the ASD in School option. This option allows your student to have a Gruening teacher. Feel free to contact your student’s counselor for additional information. Our 7th grade counselor is Dr. Pat Sloan (Sloan_Pat@asdk12.org). Our 8th grade counselor is Tirzah Fullmer (fullmer_tirzah@asdk12.org).

Art Class Postcards

Here are some of the post cards that Mrs. Frisbie's Art class delivered to Aspen Creek Senior Living. The students made postcards about their favorite places they had visited or want to visit but haven't been yet. They wanted to share past and future good times with the residents since everyone is a bit travel-grounded at the moment.
