Dear Westside Families:


As we begin to prepare for next year, our staff is working hard to form well-balanced classes in which all students will have the best opportunity to learn and to grow academically and socially. When classes are created, we follow clear, set guidelines.


While we welcome parent input about the child’s learning needs, we trust that you understand that your comments constitute just one of many factors that are considered in forming classes. You may choose to complete our Student Placement Questionnaire which will give you an opportunity to tell us about your child’s learning. If you choose to provide us with that feedback, please do so by June 10th.

OPEN HOUSE June 13th! 3:30-6:30 PM

Please mark your calendars for June 13th, 3:30-6:30 PM for a long awaited open house. Students will get a chance to introduce their families to their teachers and give them a tour of the school and classroom. We hope you join us!

Incoming Kindergarten Registration

Incoming Kindergarten and New Student Registration: ONLINE REGISTRATION LINK If you've already submitted your student's enrollment information and still need to provide documents such as birth certificates, immunizations, and proof of residency, you can drop them off at the school during the hours of 7:15 and 3:30 or email as an attachment to hrcsd.enrollment@hoodriver.k12.or.us

WILDCAT CHASE

Save the date! Thursday, May 26th will be the annual Wildcat Chase! Join us on May 26th for the Wildcat Chase! This fun-run fundraiser helps support assemblies, classroom supplies, art, and more! Friends and family can support their favorite Wildcat by donating here and volunteering to help support the event. We hope to see you cheering on the kids and celebrating the end of a great year back at school!

Upcoming Lock Down Drill

Upcoming Lockdown Drill:

On 5/20/22 we will practice our Lock Down Drill with Hood River County and City Law Enforcement staff. Westside Elementary School has emergency drills each month, including two lockdown drills over the course of the school year. Other emergency drills include earthquake and fire drills. Emergency drills allow us to practice the response to specific emergency conditions.


Our teachers take time at the beginning of the year and again prior to a drill to teach students the drill procedures. If you would like to review this lesson or read it along with your students, you can locate it here. During a real lockdown students move away from sight, maintain silence, and do not open the door. Adults recover students from the hallway, lock the classroom door, turn out the lights, help students move away from sight, maintain silence, and do not open the door. Students are always released from a lockdown or lockdown drill by law enforcement.


For our drill on 5/20 we will follow a trauma informed process. I will notify everyone through our intercom system that we will be beginning our lockdown drill. Instead of students following all of the steps in the drill (Locks, Lights, Out of Site) teachers will talk students through what would happen in the drill, while keeping lights on and students in desks. We will lock doors, and we will have officers open up the doors to release students from the drill. So that you are aware, we will have many patrol cars on campus during the drill.

We are looking to fill our PTO board positions for the 22-23 school year. Open positions include President, Vice President, & Treasurer. COVID-19 Positive Students:

A student that is positive for Covid 19 must isolate at home for 5 days since test date, 24 hours fever free, and other symptoms improved. The student should wear a mask for 5 days {days 6-10} after the end of the 5 day isolation period.
