Youth Ministry Connection
Zion Lutheran Church 9th-12th Grade
January 2023
Starting a brand new year brings change whether we like it or not. It brings joy, excitement, and hope. Looking to the future can be an incredibly exciting thing because maybe we want to forget what happened last year, maybe we have a motivating game plan on what lies ahead, or maybe we just want to say we're older and therefore wiser. Whatever it may be, Scripture does celebrate the newness in life, or more specifically, the new life in Christ.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Even with this newness in mind, sometimes a new year can bring more stress, more fear, or more sadness of what used to be. The future, albeit exciting, is unknown and can be scary.
Whatever way you're entering 2023, I want to encourage you and your families that we rely not on our control, our own strength, or our own wisdom. We rely solely on God because in Him, we need not fear the future. Fear does not hold us or love us, God does. In fact, we are reminded of what He does for us in Isaiah 41:10 when it says,
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Take that, fear! We have God on our side. So let's make this year about relying on HIM, not holding onto fear!
Now, let's get EXCITED for what's ahead in Youth Ministry!!! Below are links, sign-ups, and info on what's to come for youth ministry and the fun times we had in December! We may not know what the future holds, but we know the One who holds our future!
God's blessings on your 2023!

"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13-14)

Youth Praise Band
SO excited to announce the start of our Youth Praise Band! Music and praise band has done incredible things for my relationship with God, and I know so many others feel the same way.
My goal is to give the Youth Praise Band members an opportunity to worship God with their musical talents and to develop their musical and leadership skills in order to give others an experience of worshipping God together.
The "auditions" will be Sunday, January 29th at 1 pm in the afternoon!
Here's the link to sign-up for your time! Come with a song prepared to share with us your talent!

A few things to note about it:
- I am not a professional musician, so I don't expect those to join the praise band to be. The word "auditions" seems scary, but it's more of a show of talent and how we can use the gifts any particular youth has to support the youth band.
- It will be as much of a learning experience for the youth as for us. So, we expect all youth to show up to practices, take time to learn songs, and get better at their skills as we as leaders will as well. Once we find youth interested, we will figure out practice times!
- The goal is to do Youth Worship Nights. It is the first time we're doing this, so we have to decide later when we officially start, when we practice, if there's more than one praise band, how many nights we do, etc.
- We will take youth with musical talents including but not limited to singers, drummers or percussionists, pianists, guitarists, string instrument players, and brass players.
Senior High Mission Trip: Hurricane Ian Relief
The trip will be from June 3rd-June 10th and we will be helping to paint, landscape, and build for those who were affected by Hurricane Ian. We will have time to explore, spend time together, and grow in our faith by helping those in need.
If you are interested in going on this amazing trip together, please register the deposit of $100 by January 20th and then from there either pay $100 every month from January-May or pay it all in full before May. Thanks so much!
There will be a good amount of fundraising with the Spring Sausage Sale from February 25th-26th and other fundraising events!
