Dear MVLA Community,
In this update, we want to share information about revisions to our Homework/Makeup Work administrative regulation, SAT and PSAT testing, Board actions, and provide a COVID-19 update. We hope this information is helpful.

Homework-Free Breaks and Weekends
At the Board of Trustees meeting conducted on September 13, 2021, the Board approved revisions to AR 6152: Homework/Makeup Work to include additional homework-free periods during the school year. The October Quarter Break, Thanksgiving Week Break, December Two Week Break, February Week Break, March Quarter Break, April Week Break, and Memorial Day Holiday are designated as homework-free. Homework-free means that students will not be required to complete schoolwork at these designated times, and there will be no tests given during the first class following a homework-free weekend.
This year’s homework-free breaks and weekends: (new in bold)
October 9-12, 2021
November 22-28, 2021
December 20, 2021 - January 3, 2022

March 12-14, 2022

SAT and PSAT Testing
This year, MVLA will be offering the PSAT/NMSQT to ALL 10th, and 11th-grade students and the school-based SAT to all seniors. Juniors may choose to take either the SAT or the SAT/NMSQT. Juniors who plan to try to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship must take the PSAT/NMSQT. The MVLA High School Foundation will pay exam fees.
The tests will be administered on October 13, 2021. On this day, 9th-grade students will remain at home and have a remote learning day. Learn more here. The schools sent letters to families last week with sign-up forms (LAHS | MVHS). Students should have completed the forms Tuesday. Administrators will make any additions on a space-available basis.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of practice tests available on the CollegeBoard site - SAT | PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10
