The Franklin Academy
All School Franklin Academy Update for June 15 - June 19
A ceremony like no other, the 8th grade class and their families gathered for a distanced graduation!
Head of School Mrs. Buscko said, "I am so proud of you for finishing your Franklin Academy experience strong! You have proven that if you have that desire to learn, you can make it happen, no matter the obstacle."
The class chose Stuart to speak at the ceremony and he shared, "No matter how grueling the road ahead may be, we will always figure out how to handle it, because that's how this 8th grade class rolls!"
We will miss all of you, and we are excited to see what wonderful experiences you will have in High School!
"Energy and persistence conquer all things." Benjamin Franklin
Woo Hoo! You Did It!
Wow! Many of the 8th Grade Students Already Earned High School Credits!
Smaller class sizes ensure that each student can be challenged at their own pace. The foundation the students have received at TFA has prepared them to excel in high school and beyond!
Pre-Calculus (11th/12th grade level math) – 2 students
Algebra II (10th/11th grade level math) – 6 students
Geometry (9th/10th grade level math) – 1 student
Algebra I (8th/9th grade level math) – 1 student
9th Grade Math (Pre-Algebra) – 3 students
Two students will enter Spanish I – All other students are recommended for Spanish II
It is very impressive that some students are transferring 4.5 HS credits!
(Alg I, Geometry, Alg II, Spanish I and .5 for Spanish II).
Mrs. Stokes Announces Her Retirement
We will miss you!
Dear Franklin Academy,
After much deliberation, I have decided to officially retire from The Franklin Academy at the end of the current school year.
The decision wasn't an easy one - I love this school! Over the years, I ‘ve had the good fortune to work with wonderful students, families and many talented and supportive colleagues. I have truly enjoyed my time with all of you.
I have spent the majority of my teaching career at the Franklin Academy, formally Saint Paul’s Academy. I started in the lower school and taught 3rd Grade for three years. I then moved to 5th Grade and moved across the street to the new building, Markell Hall. I taught 5th grade for five years and then 4th grade for four.
My decision to retire is bittersweet. It will be hard to leave friends and a career that I loved, however I am eager to begin the next chapter. My husband is soon to retire as well. We plan to finish our house project…landscape the property…grow a garden… raise some critters...boat in the San Juan’s …travel a bit…spend time with family and… and celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary.
Thank you for 12 great years!
Karalee Stokes
Volunteer of the Year, Liz Walker!
What will we do without you?!
Liz has been a President and active member of PALS for many years. She has created centerpieces for the auction as long as I can remember. Liz worked on the Branding Committee to come up with the new Franklin Academy logos.
She volunteers at the Science Fair, Ski to Sea Parade, used uniform sales, end of school picnic and most events on and off campus! Thank you Liz for all you have done to support the teachers, chapel guild, and the every aspect of the school.
Congratulations on your son Stuart graduating from 8th grade this year! I am honored to have worked with you for so many years, and I am thrilled to call you my friend.
We hope Stuart has a great time in High School next year, and we wish you all the best!

Update: 2020 -2021 School Year
OSPI Directives for Fall
We have received some information about what school looks like in the fall. Our institution is stronger than ever and we are looking forward to welcoming you back for the 2020-2021 school year.
If your child is in K-8th grade we will:
Plan to be open in person on September 1st. OSPI has cautioned that Covid-19 numbers will ultimately determine if this mandate changes. We will still be adopting a new online platform that will provide us a cohesive online option in case we do have to have another closure or need to make accommodations for at-risk students. We will also be adding in extra protections using the CDC guidelines for schools and the OSPI reopening schools guidelines.
If your child is in preschool we will:
Open as planned in person on September 1st. We will use all of the CDC’s guidelines for schools and follow the recommendations from Washington State Department of Health. We are also limiting our preschool class sizes to 9 students per teacher.
Please know that we have just received this guidance and will be sharing more information about the particular safety requirements before school starts in the fall. We really appreciate your support and patience as we have had to anxiously wait to hear what our mandates are for the upcoming school year. I know I speak for all of our staff when I say.. we can’t wait to see you!
