Bus Drive Appreciation Week

Bus Driver Appreciation Week- February 8th - 12th. Please encourage your students to make their bus drivers feel appreciated!

The Leader in Me Symposium

Next week members of the SLT will be accompanying Mr. Joines on a trip to The Leader in Me Symposium in Atlanta, Ga. The team will engage in training to gain a deeper understanding of "The Leader in Me" process. The team will also have the opportunity to tour multiple schools employing The Leader in Me. Team members will report out to the entire staff on the February 24 Early Release Professional Development Day.

New Staff Member

Please help me in welcoming Carissa Meaker to our EC department and RPS! Mrs. Meaker will be working with Mrs. Judd on the Red Hall. Stop by to introduce yourself and to say hello!

AdvancEd External Review Team

This week I had the opportunity and honor to serve on an AdvancEd External Review Team to determine school re-accreditation for Wake Young Men's Leadership Academy in Raleigh. Wake Young Men's Leadership Academy is a single-gender school serving boys and young men in grades 6-12. Students in grades 6-10 attend school on-site. Juniors and seniors attend Early College at St. Augustine University.

Serving on a review team is a tremendous amount of work but is extremely rewarding. I was able to share many of the great things we do at RPS with their principal and staff. As nice as it is to see other schools and school systems, nothing compares to being home here at RPS! We have so many things to be proud of. Our sense of family is strong and that is something to be said with such a large school. I am so thankful for each of you and the contributions you make to our students, staff, and community. RPS would not be the awesome place it is without you!

The Effective Learning Environments Observation Tool (eleot) focuses on seven key learning environments that promote effective learning and student success:

  • equitable learning

  • high expectations

  • supportive learning

  • active learning

  • progress monitoring and feedback

  • well-managed learning

  • digital learning

The observer is focusing on student behaviors. Observations range from 10 - 15 minutes in length (20 min. maximum).
