Massachusetts 1692
Salem Witch Trials now in session
The puritans suspicions are high, as more and more strange occurrences are observed, including young girls cursing, convulsing, retiring to states of trance, and other absurd activities. The girls are claiming that they are bewitched by some of their elders, servants or others.
Trials
The puritans gave rather unfair trials to the accused, and the accused were considered guilty until proven innocent, contrary to our justice system today.
Hangings
Over 19 accused "witches" were hanged in 1962.
Various killing methods
This image depicts one of the ways that the puritans would kill "witches". Other methods included burning at the stake, drowning, and Hangings.
Governor William Phip Steps in
In the beginning of 1693, Governor William Phips releases all of the accused under the circumstances that all of their accusations were based on "spectral evidence".
