LAKE WORTH HIGH SCHOOL
Weekly Memo 11/14/2016
MISSION
We will lead all students to be productive citizens.
VISION
Lake Worth High School provides a customized learning experience that values individual growth and achievement.
GOALS
1. During the 2016-2017 school year, LWHS will increase the amount of time students are reading and/or writing in all core classes every day and in all elective courses at least once per week by reviewing walk-through data, student assessments, and student artifacts in PLCs.
2. By the end of the 2016-2017 school year, 70% of staff will rate school climate and culture questions as favorable (agree and strongly agree) on the annual staff survey.
3. By the end of the 2016-2017 school year, 20% of students will have participated in non-traditional modes of learning that include blended and virtual coursework by evaluating end-of-year course data.
You may have noticed some snack machines in the hallways. It has taken a considerable amount of time to get them and they will hopefully generate some revenue. However, we do not want these to be a burden on teachers in any way. We will continue to develop some specific guidelines for usage, but for now I suggest not letting students out of class to use the machines unless they have a trust card. Even then, it is only at your discretion. Other students can use them before and after school and during passing periods. We may also try to work with the vendor to see if we can use the timers to help us ensure that student get to class on time.
Speaking of getting to class on time, we realize tardies are still a challenge. Tardies are the main reason that students are not eligible for Trust Cards. We are working on a plan to try and help with tardies, and will discuss in department chair meetings this week. Please make your department chair aware of any suggestions you may have.
INFORMATION FOR THE WEEK
- Thanks to Mrs. Bruce for organizing our Parent Conference Day. Feedback was positive and thank you for your suggestions moving forward.
- Please notice that committees meet this week. The committee meeting days and times are listed below and may have changed slightly to accommodate member's schedules.
- Congratulations to Mr. Lowrance and his 8 students that advanced to Area Choir. We are proud of you and your students- I'm sure we will have even more to celebrate in January!
- The week before a break can often be a challenge. Thank you for being at your duty stations and at your doorways during passing periods to help move students on to class.
- Please remember that all of you that pull students from class should have returned the "Expectations" form by the end of the day on Friday. Please hand it in to Mrs. Basham first thing Monday if you have not done so.
- The week of December 5th, we will be asking you to help administer Naviance to all of our students. This will help students understand and select career and endorsement pathways and will help us build our schedule for next year. This is also the week of EOC testing and since we have many students testing, this looked like the best option. The schedule will be modified to some degree in the afternoons. We will have more details coming this week.
- Please continue to post on Twitter and Facebook. Snap a quick picture of something great in class and post!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Most people fail at whatever they attempt because of an undecided heart. Should I? Should I not? Go forward? Go back? Success requires the emotional balance of a committed heart. When confronted with a challenge, the committed heart will search for a solution. The undecided heart searches for an escape."
Andy Andrews
