St. Helen's School - Peace and Justice Will Be Our Way
Our Catholic School Philosophy: The educational program at St. Helen's Catholic School is grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ and teachings of the Catholic Church. Students at St. Helen's Catholic School are called to love God, to treat others respectfully, to work to the best of their abilities, and to have reverence for all of God's creation. The faculty and staff members of St. Helen's Catholic School will strive to teach as Jesus did and will assist parents and guardians in their role as the primary educators of their children.

Classroom Happenings
Kindergarteners have been discussing wants vs. needs this Lenten season as part of their Studies Weekly curriculum. Students also made paper plate Cat in the Hats this week in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America Week. A big thank you to DeVry University for visiting this week! We are making progress and having fun in Kinder!
Second grade has had a fun couple of weeks. We learned about warm and cool colors in art this week. We are learning all about plants and their life cycle in Science. Today we planted our very own plants. We will continue to watch them grow and make observations about them.
Primary grade levels got a visit from DeVry University this week. They read a Dr. Seuss book to the class in honor of Read Across America, and gifted Dr. Suess books to each classroom they visited. Check out the fun picture below!
March was super sneaky when it snuck into the 4th Grade! We finished our novel, Trumpet of the Swan, this week. The students enjoyed it and are so amazed that they read such a long book. I think they are proud of every one of the 252 pages they read! We are finishing the week with student-chosen creative activities about the characters, settings, and situations. In Social Studies, we have been learning about the Gold Rush and all the key players during that time. We have begun preparing for our Walk Through California, which will happen on Monday, March 12th.
Fifth grade has welcomed two new students this week and we are so excited to be growing and making new friends! Students are hard at work practicing for the Walk Through the American Revolution program coming to SHS. Students are assigned a character from the American Revolution to portray during the interactive learning session, and are working together on skits from different events during the war. Next week we will begin our Solar System projects.
Junior High students have been focusing on the three elements of Lent this season by being intentionally prayerful every day, discussing way they can give alms, and trying different types of fasting as ideas are given through our daily Lenten reflections. We are building Science Fair boards this week and next week, and students are really enjoying seeing all their hard work come together in a way they can share with the school. Come check the boards and experiments out at Open House later this month!
